"You are my sunshine."

The melody fell from the Italian's lips as his fingers intertwined with his older brother's. The beeping of the heart monitor was steadily slowing as the sickness sized every last movement. He remembered no pain that even began to compare to that moment, the moment when his brother's life was slipping away.

"My only sunshine."

Wet droplets fell from Feliciano's eyes and onto the hospital bed. His voice grew tight as sorrow forced a lump in his throat. He silently begged Lovino to hold on, to cling to the last of his strength.

"You make me happy when skies are grey."

The weak, unexpected second voice had Feliciano choking back more tears. It broke him to hear his brother's voice sound so small, so frail. Nothing like the usual spitfire he would always display.

"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you."

Lovino's voice was barely over a whisper now, his strength rapidly leaving him. Feliciano tightened his grip ever so slightly, hating the way the monitor beeped and then flat lined. His entire world seemed to crash around him as the sound was drawn out.

"Please don't take my sunshine away..."

The lyrics barely made it to the open air, coming out as almost a plea. He wasn't yet ready to be alone. All his life, Lovino was right by his side. The thought of being alone weighed down on him, picking out sob after sob. Time seemed to both slow down and speed up all at once. The colors of the room already seemed less bright. Who knew that such a sunny, beautiful day could be turned cold and grey for the one person that found alluring colors wherever he went? The sun was no longer as blinding as it had been when he first entered the hospital because, for Feliciano, the brightest light in his life had just dwindled down to nothing but darkness.
