(Dream's POV this time - let's see how this goes)
It'd been about two weeks by now. Lily was leading the construction of the base, gathering lots of cobblestone and andesite.
We've hollowed out a huge underground area, enough for an auditorium, a cafeteria and crafting area, a bunch of rooms (some people share rooms, some don't) and a huge storage room. There was also a training area, with targets and dummies to practice on.
I stopped by the mine to say hi to Lily, then met up with George, Sapnap and Bad. We usually stuck together. Sometimes, Techno tagged along as well. Lily stuck with the builders, like Grian and GeminiTay. Although, Lily stayed by herself when she could.
I couldn't blame her. Her channel was a fast-growing one, like mine, and it didn't help that she wasn't even a teenager. She rarely did collabs, so didn't interact with a lot of YouTubers either.
"You guys, you're supposed to get iron and coal today, we're working towards diamonds, okay?" I heard her voice across the huge room. "Got it," I yelled back. Grabbing our pickaxes, we headed towards the mine.
Even though we'd made it clear we weren't a thing, Sapnap and Bad sometimes still teased us about being together. George was silent as we walked down the mine stairs, torches and picks in hand.

"Creeper!" I heard Bad shout from the other side of the cave. I spun around and was met with the blank green face of the creeper. I stared into the void of darkness held in his eyes for a split second, then jumped back and slashed my sword.
Too late.
It exploded, breaking the walls of the cave, and revealed a cave right through it. Skeletons, zombies and the occasional spider poured through the opening.
They attacked ruthlessly, and there always seemed to be more coming through. "Ant!" I shouted. "GO! Get help!" He nodded, and bolted away.
Meanwhile, Sapnap, George, Bad and me were fighting for our lives. With no time to eat, our hearts were dropping rapidly. "Guys!" Bad yelled.
I knew what he was going to say, but it crushed me to hear it.
"We're gonna have to run."
"I'll go last," I told them, wanting one last chance to fight. They agreed, and as we rushed down the stairs, we met Lily and Techno running down. She tossed some food to us, telling us to heal.
"We were the closest ones to the mine," she said, pulling out a sword. A diamond sword. And enchanted. "Wait, what?" I said, shocked, as Technoblade pulled out the same.
"C'mon!" She told us, running down. "We don't have time! You guys need to heal, and we need to take care of the mobs!" Techno followed.
(POV switch back to me – Lily)
Good thing I found that Sweeping Edge book, I thought to myself as I swung my sword. A few days back, I'd found just enough diamonds for an enchanting table and swords for me and Techno.
Someone had enchanted some books, and among those was the Sweeping Edge I'd applied to my sword. As I turned the corner and saw the hordes of mobs, I gasped. There has to be a zombie spawner somewhere near here, I thought.
There were just so many zombies! As I swung around and slashed my sword, Techno beside me, I looked out for a block of cobblestone, or mossy cobble, but there was just too much to keep track of, and I ended up focusing on the fight entirely.
"Three and a half hearts!"
I sighed, taking out a piece of bread. "So close," I whispered to myself. "Too close."
"Techno, how we doing?" Over the last few days, I'd stuck with Techno most of the time, sometimes going off on my own. I knew I could handle it, but sometimes it just wasn't worth the risk. Also, it was lonely.
"Almost clear," he shouted back.
I had regenerated health by then. Eight hearts, good enough if it was almost clear. I jumped back in, joined by Dream. Although, when we got down there, there were only a few skeletons and zombies left, nothing compared to how it was before.
"Guys, you can come down!" Dream shouted. "Nerds," Techno replied.
"Shut up, I wasn't talking to you!"
"Can we find where all the mobs were coming from?"
This came from George. I nodded. "I think there's a spawner somewhere nearby, in the other cave system," I told them. "Yeah, look out for cobble or mossy cobble," Dream added.
We set off, placing lots of torches. "Y'know, I think this is in hard mode," I remarked as we walked. "Yeah?" They answered, probably distracted. "Last time I got stuck, there were a lot more mobs, but my friend did tweak the spawn rates; this does feel similar, though," I mumbled.
"Lily!"
I heard my name, and spun around. It was Bad, pointing.
Then my eyes widened as I saw the half-broken room of the spawner. Three chests, definitely unlooted.
"If we get a god apple..." I whispered.
"Ha, like that's ever going to happen," Techno said.
Then, I heard some muttering from the unexplored section of the cave. "Don't tell me the odds... never tell me the odds."
I only knew one person who says that.
I dashed over towards the voice, and I was right. Kiingtong! "Hi! Um, are you lost?" I asked him. "Uh, yeah. I've been down here for... almost a week maybe?"
From the looks of things, that would've been pretty accurate. He had some scrapes and cuts, but looked to be okay. He'd gotten an iron sword and pickaxe, and a chestplate.
My immediate question was, "Do you have any food? We have some." Kiingtong looked confused. "Er, who are you? And what do you mean by 'we'?" I laughed sheepishly, forgetting to introduce myself was definitely a mistake, especially now.
"I'm Lily. And by we, I mean that there's a whole community and base up above. And down here in the caves, we have Dream, Technoblade, and the rest of the Dream Team."
He gasped, I smiled. I knew how he felt. "C'mon, here," I said, and tossed him some bread. "Oh, it's fine, I got some food," he told me.
We walked back to the spawner, and would you believe it–they'd found a god apple.
I smiled. "Never," I said. "Never tell me the odds."
