He knew what they thought about him
But he didn't really mind.
Instead of hiding behind a hoodie
He held his head up high.

He heard the whispered insults
As he walked along the road.
He barely batted an eyelash
As he pulled on headphones to disguise the hurt.

He heard the condemnations
That followed him night and day.
He never wallowed in his thoughts
Instead he worked away.

For he knew that his past
Was not what defined him.
His actions of the present
Were his source of sanity.

For no matter how they hate him
He'll always know the truth.
His parents' faults were not his own,
And he was living proof.

He knew.
And that was all that mattered.
