One month earlier.

Jungwon sat curled on his bed, back against the wall, a soft hoodie pulled over his head like a blanket of safety. The dorm was quiet—Heeseung had gone out for snacks with Jay, and Jake was probably still arguing with Sunghoon over which anime to stream next.

Only the gentle hum of the desk fan and the glow of his phone screen kept him company.

He hovered over the keyboard in his chat with her—the random number girl who had replied “I’m cuter” to a dumb dare text.

She was anything but random now.

She’d told him about the poetry she scribbled in the margins of her notebooks, about the way rain made her feel less alone, about her crush on a boy she thought was out of reach.

And even though she didn’t know it was him she was texting about, Jungwon listened. Responded. Held her thoughts with care.

But sometimes... he wanted to say more.

So he typed.

[DRAFT MESSAGE]
I think I like you.

Not just because you’re sweet, or funny, or the way you say ‘ugh’ when you're ranting about your mystery crush.

I like you because you see things in colors, even on grey days. Because you talk like the world still has good in it. Because you say you’re soft, but you’re strong too.

I want to tell you it’s me. That the boy you’re crushing on? I see the way you look at him, and I wish you'd look at me like that for real. Even if you already do.

But I’m scared that if you knew it was me, you’d stop talking. And that would hurt more than keeping this secret does.

He stared at the blinking cursor.

Then he sighed... and hit Save as Draft.

He never sent it.

Instead, he messaged something simple that night:

You said you were scared of being too much. But honestly? You might be the best part of my day.

She replied three minutes later:

That’s the nicest thing anyone’s said to me today. Maybe ever.

He smiled at the screen, heart full and aching all at once.

He hadn’t said everything.

But he was hers already.

Jungwon stood in the hallway, just outside the classroom where Jiwon was laughing softly with Sunoo. He leaned against the wall, phone in hand, staring at that same saved draft in his notes app.

He hadn't deleted it.

But he knew... the next time he said those words, it would be face to face.

And when he did, he wouldn’t hold back.

Not anymore.
