The next few days passed in a soft blur.
Jiwon and Jungwon found themselves in a comfortable routine. After school, they’d walk home together under the umbrella when it rained, or under the warm sunlight when it didn’t. The air was still cool enough to wear hoodies, and their hands often brushed as they made their way to her house. It felt like something out of a movie—except, to Jiwon, it was better because it was real.
And at her house, their study sessions were less about the work and more about the time spent together. Jungwon would quietly help her with the tough problems, and when things got boring, he’d slip small notes into her textbook that would make her laugh or roll her eyes.
One afternoon, while they sat on the couch, Jiwon was trying to finish her chemistry assignment. Jungwon, who had long finished his homework, was sprawled out on his side, watching her with a lazy smile.
“How do you do it?” he asked, propping his chin up on his hand.
“Do what?”
“Focus so much. You’ve been at this for hours.”
“Because I actually care about this stuff,” she teased, clicking her pen. “Unlike some people.”
He grinned, pushing himself up to sit beside her. “Yeah, yeah. I’m just saying, I think you could make studying a lot more fun.”
She raised an eyebrow. “How?”
With a sly smile, Jungwon took the pen from her hand and started doodling on the corner of her notes. “There. Much better.”
Jiwon blinked at the squiggly drawings—he’d turned her notes into a bizarre mix of chemistry diagrams and random little cartoon characters. She couldn’t help but laugh.
“You’re ridiculous,” she said, taking the notes back and flicking him playfully in the arm. “But it’s kind of cute.”
“Cute, huh?” He leaned in closer. “I’m cute, huh?”
Jiwon rolled her eyes. “Only sometimes.”
Jungwon raised his hands in mock surrender. “I’ll take what I can get.”
Later that evening, as they finished their work and the sun dipped below the horizon, the two of them sat on the balcony of Jiwon’s apartment. The storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp breeze and a sky full of stars.
Jiwon hugged her knees to her chest, looking out at the view. “It’s nice up here.”
Jungwon leaned against the railing, close enough that their shoulders brushed. “Yeah. It’s peaceful.”
She turned her head to look at him, catching him already looking at her. His gaze softened, and he grinned.
“What?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Just thinking about how lucky I am,” he said, his voice quieter than usual.
Her heart fluttered, and for a second, she didn’t know what to say. “Lucky?”
He nodded, his hand inching toward hers until their fingers touched. “I get to be here with you, like this. No rushing. Just… us.”
Jiwon felt a warm flush spread across her cheeks. She didn’t say anything at first—just let the silence stretch between them, the kind of silence that wasn’t awkward but comfortable. The kind of silence that filled the spaces with unspoken feelings.
“Me too,” she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Then Jungwon did something that caught her completely off guard. He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her temple. It was a fleeting thing, but it felt like a promise.
And in that moment, Jiwon realized that sometimes, the sweetest moments in a relationship aren’t the grand gestures—but the little, quiet ones. The ones where no words are necessary.

The next Saturday, Jungwon invited Jiwon to the park. It wasn’t anything fancy—just a walk around the lake with a couple of cups of iced coffee from a nearby stand.
The park was quieter than usual, the trees rustling with the light breeze, and the sky was streaked with shades of pink and orange as the sun began to set.
They walked in comfortable silence, only the sound of their footsteps and the occasional sip of coffee filling the air.
“Are you excited for next week?” Jungwon asked after a while, his voice light.
“Why? What’s next week?” Jiwon asked, looking at him.
“The school festival,” he said, glancing at her with a grin. “You haven’t forgotten, right?”
Jiwon blinked. “Oh! No, of course not. I just… didn’t realize it was next week.”
“You’re so focused on your studies,” he teased, nudging her with his elbow.
She laughed, nudging him back. “I’m focused on the important stuff, okay?”
“I can’t argue with that,” Jungwon said, his expression softening as he looked at her. “But I’m still looking forward to spending it with you. It’s going to be fun.”
She smiled at him. “Yeah. It will be.”
They spent the next few hours at the park—Jiwon sketching the scenery in her notebook, Jungwon talking about his band’s plans for the festival. It wasn’t extravagant, but it didn’t need to be. Just them, in the moment, enjoying the simplicity of being together.
As the sun finally dipped behind the horizon, they stood side by side, both watching the sky shift from pastel colors to deep blues.
“Thanks for today,” Jiwon said softly.
Jungwon smiled, his fingers brushing hers again. “You don’t have to thank me. I just like being with you.”
She blushed slightly, her heart racing at the sincerity in his voice. “I like being with you too.”
And just like that, the world felt perfectly still for a moment. The chaos of school, of life, seemed so far away. There was only this: them, together, in a small world where nothing had to be perfect to be right.
