I automatically came up with this short idea when I read that.

"No offense, Varian." Eugene nudged him.
"If talking about the demon, then I'm good," Varian replied, slightly amused. "Otherwise..."

Varian made a fist pump, feeling a little more confident in himself. He looked to Eugene's father, who was standing beside him.
Edmund chuckled. "Look at 'em-so young and willing to get themselves killed... Good job, everyone! We've got this!"
"Dad!" Eugene facepalmed his face. "So much for the mood."
"Oh... did I say that out loud?"
"Yes, and you literally killed the mood," Eugen muttered.
"Do I need a new song?" Rapunzel asked.
"Nope, I think we're still good!" Quirin interrupted.
Varian laughed and elbowed Eugene. "And you thought Cass spoke her mind."
"Don't even get me started," Eugene grumbled.
