"Holy crap Y/N, I thought he was totally dead, I mean, did you see the way he just collapsed on the floor?! I should've paid more attention in first aid, I was just standing there... "Y/N, HELLO?" Scott was rambling to himself while navigating through the winding roads leading back to the main drag. I sat in silence, quietly contemplating whatever the hell just had happened with Jacob. The ways his eyes glazed over, it was like he just saw a fucking monster, and that monster was, me? The thoughts pounded my head a million miles a minute, by the time some guy named Sam arrived, Mia quickly had ushered us to our cars- insisting that we return home and she would call when Jacob was stable. I was awaiting the call with each fiber of my being and each slight movement of my iPhone caused a full blown anxiety attack. I nodded mindlessly to Scott as his initial freakout mellowed out into our usual talk as the seemingly endless roads twisted and turned into the Washington wilderness.

"Right Y/N?" Scott suddenly commented,

"Sorry, what was that?" I jerked my head up from my lost daze. Scott began his rant on how the local strip mall should add a Spencer's to add *spice*  to the usually mundane everyday life. I chuckled softly under my thick jacket. By the time Scott dropped me off at my house, he had seemingly forgotten what had transpired. I quickly ran upstairs, burying my head into the pillows as my phone buzzed in my jacket. I checked it to see some incoming texts from my little sister:

*staying the night at jennifer's- pls don't eat the pizza ty :)*

*cool, love u. be safe k?*

*i'll try ;)*

I let out a slight sigh of relief, I was beyond glad to have the house to myself as the rain pounded on the thin frame of the house. I grabbed my laptop and began typing rather aggressively on the keyboard. Whatever I can find, the thoughts rattled through my mind as I frantically scrolled through urban legend directories, all coming up with zero results. I couldn't wrap my head around what was popping up in my search results. Nothing I came across seemed to coincide with each other, I would find a story on one thing and then find an article which contradicted what I had just read. What if he had a brain tumor? What if he literally died and I have no idea! I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. Emotions were flooding my brain as I desperately tried to get a grip on myself. Ready to give up completely, I made one final attempt to find any information online about what had happened when I stumbled across an interesting article written by a folklore professor. My eyes widened at the subject line, "Ancient Connection to Folklore and Native American Reservations" I clicked through the article when my eyes landed at a specific entry.

"It has been long believed that ancient rituals from Native American Tribes have been linked to genetic mutations connected to a species of unidentified wolf. Studies are still being conducted." WOLVES? I let out a gasp. I couldn't believe what I was reading. That still didn't explain what happened to Jacob, but a gnawing feeling in my stomach kept telling me it was very vital to the story.

School drowned on for hours as I zoned in and out of Mrs. Paulson's never ending lecture about the French Indian war. Her delicate fingers swung up and down as she expressively explained the ins and outs of the various battles and victories. Usually I would be ecstatic to hear about such fascinating history, but my mind was stuck on the revelation that the local hot guy might be a fucking werewolf. As my mind wandered into another corner of "what ifs" the sound of the bell shook me into reality. I quickly gathered my supplies and shoved them into my bag, trying hard not to catch the attention of really anyone- when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I shrugged and whipped my head around,

"Y/N, you seemed a little dazed during the lecture today, is everything alright?" Mrs.Paulson asked, she seemed genuinely concerned.

"Absolutely, I was just up late putting the finishing touches on my project actually." I cracked a crooked smile, trying my best not to raise any suspicion.

"Ah, well, you are my best student. If you weren't, I would have thought you were daydreaming." She smiled, looking down at her watch. "Well, okay- just make sure to get enough rest sweetheart, okay?"

"Yes, I'll try!" I smiled and quickly shuffled out into the hallway. Shit, that was close- I thought while navigating to my locker. My locker was thankfully in a secluded hallway where I simply just stuck my head in trying to clear my head. What am I doing? What will I do? Should I go see him? Should I run away? I closed my eyes to formulate a plan. I couldn't bring Scott with me, as much as I loved him- he was way too starstruck by Jacobs ' beauty to really help me investigate what was going on, and honestly it was so out of this world that I felt embarrassed even telling him. I decided to make a trip to the reservation- as petrified and scared I felt, I knew deep inside that there was something for me there, something I couldn't explain. I grabbed my phone and slipped out the back entrance of the school and camly walked into my car, starting the engine. As I coolly slid out of the parking lot, I saw a group of birds fly into the distance, I smiled as I turned up the radio- heading towards the lonely road leading to the reservation.
