The girls made their way across the lake, and then into the castle. Once they reached the great hall they heard a voice they knew way too well. "This way children, this way! Into the hall, hurry now!" McGonagall said gesturing to the hall. Sam made her way over to her favorite teacher, "Minerva, I missed you! Hogwarts must of been so boring without us.". "Hello to you too Ms. Riteen, I think you've been here long enough to know where to go?". "Aw Minnie, do you really want us to sit down? Don't you want to talk to your favorite students?" Sam replied. McGonagall let out a silent laugh and gave Sam a look. Sam knew she loved her jokes, no matter how much she denied.

Sam was just about to leave when she heard a familiar voice say "Minnie! Dear, you look quite beautiful today, do you have a new perfume?". She knew that arrogant tone anywhere, Sirius Black. She turned back to her friends in an attempt to heard them away from the boys, but of course James spotted them "Evans! Wait up!". Lily looked back and the group of boys made their way too her. "Sorry Lils, your on your own!" Sam said while her, Molly, and Marlene made their way to the Gryffindor table.

She looked behind her to see a flustered Lily mouthing 'traitor' to the girls, Marlene let out a low laugh and Molly stuck out her tounge. "So she got herself into a date with James?" Marlene asked. "Of course, you know if I didn't know better I would say Lily has a bit of a crush on him.." Sam whispered to Marlene. Marlene let a laugh out at that comment "She shouldn't lead the poor boy on if she doesn't, but who knows maybe your right. Could you imagine them together?". "I don't know, but hey opposites attract, right?". Marlene looked down at the table a laughed a bit, "Right.". Sam looked down when she suddenly felt a hand slide onto hers, she looked up and meet the eyes of Marlene, who quickly looked away.

Marlene had been acting weird ever since they first met back at the platform, Sam couldn't help but wonder if these seemingly 'accidental' touches weren't as innocent as she thought. She couldn't deny, Marlene was beautiful. She had long blonde hair that matched her beautiful brown eyes, wait beautiful? What was Sam thinking, this is her best friend!

Sam began to try and convince herself that it was purely platonic, that she could admire her beauty, but she couldn't help but feel something else. She had always felt different about Marlene, since the day she saw her really, so she got close with her and that was more than enough, just being her friend. She was snapped out of her thoughts by a huffing Lily who sat herself beside her, Marlene quickly pulled her hand away, accidently attracting the eyes of Molly. "So what did you say to him?" Sam questioned. "I told him one date, then never again. I cant believe I have to do this." She said looking annoyed. "Look on the bright side, I'm sure that after you go one at least one date with him he'll stop pestering you about it." Molly replied, Molly had always been one for optimistics. "Aw c'mon Lily, you do have to admit going on a date with James Potter isn't that bad.. At least hes nice to look at." Sam said. She noticed a light blush dust on Lily's cheeks, "Well he is handsome, but I don't care for looks." Lily mumbled.

"I'm sure your right, at least I hope you are. I cant go through one more year of him getting on the table and 'confessing' his love." Marlene huffed. Sam bursted out laughing at the memory, this was just one of the many Mauraders tradition started by Potter, every year since first year he would stand on the Gryffindor table and confess his feelings, and every year her response remained the same. Sam had always wondered why he wanted Lily so badly, was it for the sole reason she didn't want him, maybe, she would probably never know.

Just as the girls started to talk about their summers in came the new First Years. Many of the students looked at the great hall in awe, especially the muggleborns, Sam knew how it felt so did Lily, they were so shocked when they came to Hogwarts they could barely talk. The Sorting Hat began its speech and students were called out, Sam knew what was about to happen, her favorite part of getting first years. "That ones in Gryffindor c'mon!" she could hear the Mauraders yell out, every year they would yell their predictions, their surprisingly good predictions.

McGonagall shot them a glare and they inturn smiled at her. "Better be..... Slytherin!" yelled the Sorting Hat. "That's rubbish! Boo!" all four of the boys began to boo the hat until the next student they called. Most of the students seemed unfazed by the boys yelling, but the smaller students seemed shocked. The boys continued their predictions while the girls laughed at them, Sam kept her eyes on a certain Marauder though.

Remus. Remus was smart, he was mysterious, and he was sneaky, but most important at all he stuck to his word. He and Sam had became friends first, always having a competitive relationship it became a small tradition for them to prank one another first so she kept her guard up, knowing if he were to do something he could without her knowing. This paranoid feeling stuck with her the entire feast, especially when she could see the four boys whispering to one another and looking back at her, never a good sign. She kept her head down, talking to her friends and eating, maybe she was just being paranoid, hopefully.
