Chapter 3

~Kim’s Past~

She laid in bed looking out the window; the sun was rising and painted a glowing outline around everything around her. She felt like she was in a dream world. Everything was fluffier and brighter than normal. Suddenly his arm wrapped around her from the other side of the bed and spun her around. She couldn’t suppress her giggle. She landed on top of him and kissed his lips.

“Good morning princess,” he said in between kisses.

“Good morning Marcus,”  Kim responded smiling.

“Awww no cute pet name for me? You’ll make me sad.” He said all pouty, but 100% kidding.

“When I come up with a good one you’ll know it.” She stuck her tongue out at him and rubbed her nose against his.

“Promise I’ll be the first to know?” Marcus asked.

She giggled and rolled off of him onto her side of the bed, “Always.”

The day went pretty normal, Kim made Marcus breakfast, he left for work, and then she left for work. The Preschoolers were just as hyper and adorable as normal; her best friend Maggie stopped by the school with lunch. She got all the Preschoolers into their parents’ car and then she took off for home to make dinner for Marcus. He got home late, but she was use to that by now.  They ate dinner; she took the dog for a walk, got a bath, and turned on the TV.

Marcus leaned against the doorframe between the kitchen and the living room watching her. “there are still dishes in the sink from breakfast and dinner.”

“I know I’ll get them, im just really tired out from the day.” She muted the TV. “would you mind doing a few for me?”

“Next thing you know you’ll want me to take bubble baths and paint my nails. You clean, that’s the woman’s job.” He said with a bitter edge to his voice.

“I know darling, but now that I have a job I don’t have time for all that stuff. Don’t you think you could just pick up some of the slack for me?”

He walked into the room, grabbed her by the wrist and yanked her into a standing position “I was willing to let you finish your show before you went and cleaned the kitchen, I was willing to be patient, but someone is forgetting their place.” He dragged her into the kitchen; she was kicking and screaming, fighting, pulling and tugging. He didn’t budge. “Now you’re going to finish all of this work now.” He turned her to look at him, grabbed her chin and pulled her eyes to meet his. “Got it?”

“Yes Marcus, I’ve got it.” She responded sounding defeated.

He pulled her into a hug, “You’re going to make a great wife one day, I love you.”

                “I love you too.”

~Kim Present~

The place looked different to Kim now that Marcus wasn’t there, it hurt to be there all alone anymore, but she had nowhere else to go. Now where else she wanted to go. Her parents had given up on her, but she had given up on them long ago. They’re relationship had been different then her and Marcus’s, and so they looked down on it. Now she looked down on theirs.

She walked into the bedroom, the walls were still blue, the bed spread was still green, the pictures were still covering the wall, yet it looked completely different. There was no love filling the room, or happiness. She was expected to go on without him. How could she do that? Who would teach her where she belonged? Who would tell her if she was right or wrong? Who would love her?

Beau came running in the room to her. This was the only thing that felt right anymore. Her gorgeous King Charles spaniel hoped right up onto the bed with her. His black ears soft and comforting, his brown eye brows twitched as he looked at her, and the white hair around his nose emphasized his little black nose’s every movement.  She held him tight, his tail wagging and tickling her bare toes. This is the happiest and most normal she felt since her world fell apart.

The phone rang, but she didn’t move to get it. She just curled up under the covers hugging her puppy to her chest. She could still smell him in the sheets and was counting down the moments until his arm wrapped around her. She almost forgot his arm would never wrap around her again. He was never coming back to her.
