7:35 A.M
Luke's POV:
"I bet you Anja is so easy," Leo says.
"Lucky! I have met Mia one time and she refuses to give any details other than her first name."
"Well you already know her last name. She is Alex Parrish's daughter. Unknown father....."
I stare at Leo, as if he told me Earth has 10 moons.
"Wait- you didn't know that?"
I shook my head.
"How do you not know that! Then why did you pick her?"
"Because Mom and Dad were staring at her and I wanted to know why. But I am guessing the reason is since she is Alex Parrish's only offspring. That makes so much sense!" I exclaim, thinking that I am a fool.
"Let's get started! I want to start reading Mia's file before PT."
I open up her file. It starts off with her age, date of birth, hometown, nationality, which generation agent she is, name, etc. I read through all of them, but something seems off. I can't figure out why till I pay close attention to the name. I thought about what Leo said. He said she was Alex Parrish's only child and the father is unknown, so according to that her name would be Mia Parrish. But on the file, it said Mia McQuigg.
"Hey Leo!"
"Yeah?"
"What is Mia's last name?"
"Is this a trick question since it's on the file and you just read it? But it's Parrish. Why you asking?"
"Has she ever told you that or are you guessing upon her mother's name?"
"To think of it, she never says anything about her past or doesn't even give her last name. At least not to me. But then again, why are you asking?"
"Because according to the file, her name isn't Mia Parrish."
"What is it?" Leo asked, starting to seem intrigued.
"Mia McQuigg." I flip past the pages and see a page about her family. Not just her mom, but dad as well.
"Leo! Look!" I say pointing at the page.
Leo leans in and reads what it says, "Mother: Alex Parrish, Father: Mike McQuigg. So she lied when she said her father was unknown to me yesterday when I asked."
"Maybe she doesn't know her father, just knows his name." I say, to try and defend her.
Why are trying to defend someone you barely know, Luke!
"Flip to the page of family pictures, Luke." Leo says.
"Isn't this MY assignment? Why are you so intrigued?"
"Because I am nosy. Now do it."
I flip to that page, wondering why am I listening to him.
"The last photo we ever see of the 2 of them together is of when she was 10. 2 years ago. What happened to him after that?" I asked.
"Your case. Figure it out yourself."
"You are a jerk. When it came to reading the file, I am nosy. Now when it comes to the hard part, it's your case. I don't get you." I say to him, also trying to mimic him.
I decide to open my laptop to open the Bureau's database. I searched up Mike McQuigg. I started reading, but of course it was meant for older agents and not junior trainees. From what I could make out, he was a Special Agent who had gone rogue who had help from some unknown person and got him out of the country. This happened 2 years ago.
That's why Mia never mentions anything about him. Everyone knows she is a hero's daughter, but no one knows she is also a traitor's daughter as well.
I close my file realizing that it was 8:30.
"What happened? You finished?"
I nod my head.
"What did you find out?"
"Oh so now it's your case. It's none of your business. Anyway, tomorrow we share out what we found out."
"Fine, you don't have to be so rude." Leo mumbles.
"Look, I am sorry. But what I found out, I don't know how I am going to tell this to her."
"That bad, huh."
I nod my head once again. If this is Mia's secret, what's mine?
Mia's POV:
After about a half hour of reading, I see I still have an hour before PT. I think about something on the file. Luke had Hoplophobia, but most phobias are caused because of personal experiences. I open up my phone again, but search up the hospital name. I scroll back all the way to the date of Adam's death. I gasp when I read an article from one day before.
"Children's Hospital of LA becomes a shooting sight. The shooters have been arrested by the FBI. From what we know, the hospital claims that 2 people got shot, a nurse and 2 year old patient. The nurse seems to be stable, but 2 year old Adam Booth is critical since he has leukemia." I read to myself, making sure Anja doesn't hear anything. I scroll down and see an update from that very article on Adam's death day.
"Hospital confirms that the nurse will be okay, but the child died. When the child's family is interviewed, they say that no parent or child should have to face this." I whisper read again. I try to not let tears come in my eye, and I succeed. I realize that this wasn't at all about the death itself, but how it happened and how it affected him. I go back and to reading my book so I wouldn't think about it. Anja seems to notice that something is up, but doesn't ask anything.
Hey! It's me again. Sorry if this is not as good, I wrote most of this at 12 A.M. I also decided to include Mike! I felt like if I had Alex have a daughter, there had to be a father. I originally was thinking that Ryan could have cheated on Shelby, but then it became too complicated and the story would end just like that. So, I had Mike become the father of the baby. Keep enjoying this and next update should be before Christmas. Have a merry early Christmas!
