Fourteen

Jughead and Jellybean dropped Betty home as she didn't feel like walking back. She quickly took a short shower and then flopped on her bed and fell asleep. She only woke up due to the opening of the front door signifying Veronica was home. She dragged herself out of bed a sat down on the couch still half asleep.

She said sleepily," Morning V."

Veronica laughed at that and said," More like evening sleeping beauty."

" Oh wait yeah...it's not the next day yet."

Veronica laughed again and went to her room. Approximately 10 minutes later she came out and sat on the couch next to Betty, who was now scrolling through her phone. Veronica studied her for a while and figured out that she was tensed based on her body language.

She asked," You want to get something of your chest B?"

Betty's head shot up from her phone. She looked confused at first but then she relaxed and said," Actually yeah..."

" Shoot."

" Well when our mom's came, they mentioned Cheryl and I just can't get her out of my mind. She was supposed to be here with us...laughing and enjoying life finally. But she's not. She's still stuck there in that hellhole and I can't help but feel bad. We haven't once thought about her in an entire month just because we got freedom. I just can't help feeling like a horrible friend.", Betty rambled.

" Well atleast if you are a horrible friend then that makes me a horrible friend too. I have to say...I've thought about it a lot too since that day. I just don't know what to do.", Veronica said.

" Do you think we should take Jug and Arch's help?"

" As much as it seems like we shouldn't drag into our mess again...we can't do this alone. We need their help."

" Ok then that's fixed...we are getting their help for the plan. But what's the plan?"

" What if...", Veronica told Betty the plan she made in her mind. She wasn't sure if it was a good one as it was made on spot but Betty's gleaming looks gave her the approval that her plan was good.

" Okay, we'll talk about it with them tomorrow but we can't execute the plan until after 14th. After that day, we go to California...", Betty shuddered at the thought but this is what they had to do.

" Why not before 14th?"

" I don't want to ruin JB's birthday because of this. It's a matter of 3 days and we can revise our plan well with the other two so that they don't mess up, especially Archie."

" Hey! Archie won't mess up. He was quite helpful last time."

" Still not keeping my hopes up..."

" I don't understand why you hate him...poor Arch. He didn't even do anything wrong."

" Except piss me off the first time I met him."

Flashback

" Hey B, wanna meet Archie today?"

" You mean that Archie you have a crush on? Hell yes...I need to see how this dude is before I give you my blessings to date him."

" What are you...my dad?", Veronica asked with one of her eyebrows arched.

" Well no...bit I am your best friend and my opinions should matter to you just as much."

" You are in luck cuz my dad's opinion doesn't matter to me. But please don't creep him out."

" No promises."

" And no embarassing childhood stories."

" Again...no promises."

" You definitely are the devil incarnate Betty Cooper."

" I know.", Betty said shrugging her shoulders.

Veronica sighed and about 20 minutes later they were both out of the house on their way to Pop's. Veronica's shift was over for the day so now she was on the other side of the counter. They went and sat on the bar counters  and saw Archie washing the dishes, breaking one every so often, from the open kitchen door.

Betty leaned next to Veronica's ear and said," So this is Archie? He looks like an idiot with muscles and probable abs also known as every other high school jock."

" Ok firstly he isn't an idiot. He's just...clumsy. and secondly front be such a stereotype, some jocks are smart also."

" Fine, maybe I shouldn't be stereotypical but seriously...HIM?!"

" Shut up, he's coming our way."

Archie walked up to them and said," Hello ladies, do you have your orders ready?"

" Not yet but I wanted you to meet my friend Betty. And I wanted Betty to meet you."

" Hello there darling."

" Do you call everyone darling here or is that something you called me?", Betty asked flatly.

" Oh um...I was just um...doing it for no reason, just for um...fun. Uhhh I need to go check on the cupcakes."

Archie left the room in a hurry and Veronica glared at Betty and said," Are you kidding me?! You scared him off in just a few words."

" Well he pissed me off in just a few words. HeLlO dArLiNg? I'm telling you he is a player."

" Betty! You could easily see the pranking look in his eyes. He was just doing it to have a laugh out of you."

" Why does he need a laugh out of me...??"

" Do you realize how uptight you look right now? You look like a deer when they hear their predator coming."

" What else did you expect? I need to put on a strong front for him to be scared of me and prove himself worthy of you."

Veronica's voice dropped drastically as she whispered through her teeth," He doesn't even know I have a crush on him."

" With you obvious flirting I'm sure he does. Wait no I take it back, it's Archie he's probably oblivious to it all."

Veronica slapped Betty's arm and said," You know him for hardly 5 minutes."

" Ok first off ow. Second off you think I haven't heard stories of him from high school from Jughead and JB?"

Veronica sighed and looked away at the menu knowing that no matter what she says, she would never have won their little fight. Another 5 minutes later, Archie reappeared and came up to them.

" Hey Betty...um don't take what I told you seriously. I was just trying to prank you or you could say weird you out for fun. I'm sorry, I didn't want you to get mad at me..."

" Apology accepted but only if you answer one question."

Veronica looked fearfully at Betty thinking she'd ask something like 'do you like Veronica?'.

Archie nodded his head in response and Betty asked," Did this apology take you 5 minutes to come up with?"

Veronica's body posture changed drastically as she bursted out laughing and Archie rubbed the back of his neck nervously and nodded yes.

End of flashback

" If I remember it well you scared him off while he was trying to pull you leg."

" Still pissed me off...end of discussion."

" Fine. Ok so tomorrow first thing in the morning, discuss the plan with the boys."

" Yep."
