Year : unknown

"What year is it?"

Five and I look around for any clues of what year it was.

"Over there"
Five points at a news paper lying on the ground.

We stand up an run over to it.
Five picks it up and flattens it enough to read.

"What does it say?"
I asked.

"2019"

"Yeah, you'll have to be more specific than that"

"April 1st, 2019"

Year : 2019

Five hands me the news paper.
I examine the page carefully before handing it back to him.

"So you blinked us 16 years into the future to the apocalypse and now we're stick here for we don't know how long?"
I asked.

"It's appears that way"
Five replied.

He looked at the news paper one more time, folded it and slid it into his pocket.

"Well... we're stick in the future, alone, with no way back home. How are we gonna fix this?"
Five looked at me.

I thought about his question for a moment.

"We could find a way to stop it,. But first, we need to find our family, dead or alive"

Five and I climbed through the doorway of the academy, half barricaded with rubble.

Once we made our way through the doorway, I couldn't even recognize the academy, there was only piles and piles of dirt, crumbled concrete and burning wood.

"How are we gonna find anyone in this?"
I said making hand gestures to the destroyed academy.

"Well..."
Five replied, rolling up his sleeves.

"We better start digging"

I turn to Five.
"That's a half decent plan, except for the fact it's a shitty plan. It would be better if one of us digs and the other searches the surface of the rubble"

Five scoffed and shook his head.
"Why do you even ask me if you do what you want to do anyway"

"Because My ideas are always better"

"Not always"

"Um...yep, always"

Five looked down at the ground, laughed.

"What's so funny, Five?"
I asked, suspiciously.

Five looked back up at me.

"I down know if you've noticed from the 13 years we've known each other, but I can read people quite we."

I was confused.
"What does that have to do with anything?"

"You're hard to read"

I was even more confused.
"...and?"

"I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU, Y/N"
Five yelled.

"I always think you're gonna do one one thing but you end up doing something completely different!"

I paused and just stared at Five for a few seconds.

"I'll take that as a compliment"

"EXACTLY, I thought you'd be offended by that, that's why I've never told you."

"Five..."

"JUST..."

Five took a long brethren to calm down a bit before finishing his sentence.

"Can we just...forget this conversation ever happened?"

"...uh...okay?"

Five nodded.
"Okay, I'll dig, you search the surface."
He immediately started digging after he finished talking.

Five can be so god damn confusing! He'll be completely calm one minute, homicidal rage the next.
I swear he can't go one day without having a tantrum if his life depends on it.

I scanned the piles of rubble and found  a pile that was high enough for me to have a clear sight of the fallen academy.

I made my way to the pile and started climbing.
It wasn't that hard, dad taught all of us how to withstand extreme environments and adapt to all most all of them.

I was about half way up when I stood on a loose brick.
Crumbled but I caught myself on a nearby ledge.

"That was way to close"
I thought to myself and continued to climb.

I was almost  at the top when a loose brick from above me fell and hit me on the head.
I wasn't unconscious but lost focus for a few minutes and fell.
Thoughts flashed through my mind as I fell... like it was happening in slow motion.

Suddenly, something broke my fall.
I looked up  and saw Five looking down at me.
He caught me.

"Are you okay"
I could hear worry in his voice as he spoke.

I clutched day head where the brick hit me.

"That's definitely gonna leave a mark"
I thought.

"I'm fine"
The words came out dry.

"Well, I have good news and bad news."
Five said still holding me in his arms.

"Tell me the good news first"

"I found the others"

"Really?!"

"Yeah... you probably don't want the bad news"

Deep down I already knew what Five was gonna say, but I refused it.
It's not true, it can't be true.

"Wh-what's the bad news?"

Five paused and looked away, trying to gather his thoughts.
He turned back to me.

"They're dead"
