Chapter 20: Predictable

Detective: Detectives, someone's here to see you.
The detective leaves and standing in front of Danny and Maria is Maggie (the medium).

Danny: Maggie.
Maggie: Danny, hello. Detective Baez.
Maria: Why are you here?
Maggie: I'm sorry, am I not welcome here?
Maria: Why ask? It isn't like you don't know the answer already, seeing as you can see the future, come and go as you please.
Maggie: My gift isn't like that.
Danny: What my partner meant to say was that she's pleased to see you.
Maria: I guess you can't read minds, Danny. I wasn't thinking that at all.
Maggie: I'm sorry, did I do something?
Maria: Yes, you did in fact.
Danny: Not at all. What can we do to help you?
Maria: Let me guess...
Danny: No, let's not guess.
Maggie: Maybe I can speak to you alone Danny?
Danny: That won't be necessary.
Maggie: Ok, well. My sister is in....a lot of trouble.
Danny: I thought you didn't have any family.
Maggie: I wouldn't call her family. She's a step-sister.
Danny: Ok well, what kind of trouble?
Maggie: She overdosed and it's not her first time. She's in the hospital.
Maria: So why come to us?
Maggie: I didn't come for you. I need Danny to talk to her. She really is a good person. I think if you, just talk to her. And if she needs to be threatened, well I guess that could be arranged.
Maria: We throw those kind of people in jail, overdosing doesn't do anything for a person.
Maggie: She's not those kind of people. If you just talk to her. Danny, for a friend?
Maria: I don't think Danny wants to be troubled with
Danny: I'll talk to her, for a friend.
Maggie exits there precinct:
Danny: What was that?!
Maria: I'm wondering the same thing Danny! Why would you ever agree to something like that?!
Danny: You would've done the same thing!
Maria: You could get in trouble! Imagine how that would look in the papers! I can already see it in the headlines: Police Commissioner's son gets in trouble with the law!
Danny: You know that's not the reason! You're jealous, admit it. Admit it Maria.
Maria: I am not!
Danny: Well then, tell me exactly why you got so mad at Maggie?! Like, really MAD?
Maria: Well, she's constantly disrupting your
Danny: My life? By making me take my ring off? By asking me for help on cases?
Maria: She didn't!
Danny: Oh, but she did.
Maria: What a tattletale!
Danny: Come on Maria. You are jealous. Again!
Maria: Maybe a little bit.
Danny: I knew it!
Maria: Ok, I'm jealous. So what? You know you
Danny: Like her?
Maria: Stop finishing my sentences!
Danny: Oh, well I'm sorry. You're just so predictable.
Maria: So you do? Like her?
Danny: As a friend, yes. Don't you?
Maria: Oh, shut up.
Danny: I'll take that as a predictable no.
Maria: Well, I take it at a time you liked her for more than a friend.
Danny: Sorry, why do you care?
Maria: I don't know, I just
Danny: Have always been jealous of me and Maggie?
Maria: I guess so. You did like her though right?
Danny: Since I'm so caught up loving you, I must have forgotten.
