"The crown prince has arrived!"

He's finally here. But he's here with her. My debut ball, yet he's brought his lover with him. He escorted another woman to my fucking ball.

He's insulting my father, the duchy, and me all at the same time.

If this is the game you want to play prince, then I'll gladly play.

And she played, but at the cost of her own life.

A bad omen.

A rotten feeling.

For the past week I've had a sense of dread looming over me. I've been doing what I usually do, but I can't help but feel like I'm being watched. It feels similar to when I attended the princess training at the imperial palace.

"Great work Maya, make sure to send the draft to the director."

Brushing off the awful sense of foreboding, a charming yet forced smile bloomed on Maya's face. "Yes sir, I'll make sure to do it immediately."

"Also are you free next week?"

Is he... hitting on me?

"Sir?"

"Oh don't look at me like that!" The old man chuckled, "our company is collaborating with another firm for the resort project down at the Canaria islands. We're going to be holding a formal dinner to celebrate the collaboration, so make time to come."

Fuck, how embarrassing. I can't believe I misunderstood him so quickly. Maybe I'm being too cautious... But I get to go to such a big meeting?

"I get to go?"

"Ofcourse, you and the rest of your team is going to be handling part of the project."

"I'm- wow thank you sir, I won't disappoint you."

Maya's eyes gleamed as she headed to the directors office with a file in hand.  This is what she had been waiting for. A second chance to carve her own path in life. Finally a moment in her life to not worry about what a man thinks of her, or the weight of the expectations laid on her by people who didn't care if she lived or died.

She was so elated that she forgot about the sense of foreboding that had plagued her for the past week. She also failed to notice a familiar dark haired figure exiting from the elevator near her.

Golden eyes seemed to watch her movements with earnest interest, freezing at the sight of the content smile on the pretty woman's face. Her grey eyes that had been brimming with fear, hesitance and most of all hatred had been replaced with a calm yet content look.

He felt strange at seeing how different this woman had become, but he had never really known her at all.

The crown princess and the little duchess was a difficult person to get an audience with. She was either at the palace or at the duchy practicing her swordsmanship. Always working, so the only times people saw her were at formal occasions. And even then she appeared cold and aloof. So it wasn't hard to believe the rumours that she was a ruthless woman who was shamelessly hanging on to the crown prince. While she was excellent in her etiquette and manners, her personality was said to be rotten. She was in a difficult position, a position laden with others jealousy and hatred. Such rumours would naturally have come about. However, he regretted how he had been blinded by his emotions and had single handedly led himself to his own demise. After his death he woke up in this strange world, and came across the book that was his world. The hypocrisy of the prince he had once called his friend, and his own selfish desire to conquer Lady Jenna Multz.

Jenna Multz.

Even in this world he had previously fallen for her.

Some things don't change.

Her innocence and bravery was so striking. Coupled with her gentle appearance it was easy to see why he had become enamoured by her. But yet for a woman that would never be his he ruined his and another's life. Thankfully he hadn't done such a thing in this world. Yet.
The handsome man's face became complicated, as he watched the white haired girl's figure get farther from him.

Was Maya wrong for wanting to hold on to a partner that she had worked hard for over 11 years? Perhaps the way she went about it was wrong, but it was understandable and certainly not deserving of a torturous death and the elimination of her clan. Yet he, like the others, also sentenced her to hell. Even this world's Maya had been cast aside by the same man.
He had felt that the girl had changed when he heard she was involved with Francia Greitz. He had finally confirmed that she was the same Maya Blayyid at the banquet last week, and she also remembered her past life.

He has to apologise, he has been given another chance to make it up to her. This guilt has been eating at him for so long, his nights are plagued with nightmares of the same beautiful face covered in blood and tears, tan skin turning black and blue from the bruising. Constantly begging to see her father, and asking for her knight.

Now, he will do anything for Maya Blayyid's forgiveness.
