Shopping Trip

Chapter 7

A few minutes later Doric pulled the ship up to a large building with 100's of roller doors on the front. As they pulled up to one of the doors a robotic arm seemed to emerge from nowhere and attached itself to the ship with a clunk. Doric pulled a card from under the monitor and scanned it against the computer screen. A few seconds later the door in front opened and they moved forward slowly. Raymond could not see anything except for a capsule that was lit up with a green light that he took to be a transporter.

"Great finally something that actually worked." said Doric.

"You'll have to be quiet while I'm gone. The space has only allowed for one life form."

"That's ok ill just sit here and read my comic and then make myself a snack." Said Raymond.

"No you won't even be able to do that. It'll detect you even if you are sitting still."

"Well what can I do then?"

Doric rubbed his forehead.

"Does the ship have a simulator or anything?" asked Raymond

"Hey yeah that could work . You can use the C THR'U FNC. You could stay in there till I get back. It's great you can play any kind of virtual reality you want." Doric said enthusiastically.

"Hey what's a C THR'U FNC. Should I be worried?" asked Raymond

"Nah, its something my parents installed so they could have some together time!"

Doric had his finger up to his mouth.

" I hate all that sloppy kissy stuff." he said.

Raymond followed Doric into the engine room. Quick, stand right behind me. said Doric. The wave's coming.

Suddenly a light that indeed looked like a wave moved slowly around the room. Raymond stood with his tummy right up to Dorics back and closed his eyes. The light moved over them and paused for a second. Raymond stood so still he thought he was going to burst. He had taken a deep breath when Doric had told him to stand next to him and now he had to let go! Thankfully the light moved away and then disappeared.

"Quick we have to move. The wave will be back in a few minutes." said Doric.

They hurried to the back of the engine room. Doric pushed a few buttons on a grey door and it swished aside. They walked into a small room no bigger than the toilet at home. Doric pulled open a panel in the wall that revealed a keyboard with a small screen above it.

"Ok said Doric. You just need to type on the keyboard what you would like to do or where you would like to go and the room will become that place. You can do earth things if you want or pick somewhere from your galaxy. Like Mars or your moon say! When I leave I'll engage the fence and you won't be able to stop the reality till I unlock the fence again. Ok. I should be no longer than an hour. Put this band on your wrist so you know how much time you have left."

Raymond put the band on his wrist, it started beeping.

"Ok have fun!" Doric said as the door swished aside again.

Raymond jumped a little as he heard a clunk from the other side of the door. Must be the fence he thought. He stared at the keyboard wondering what he could do or where he could go. A lot of places ran through his head. Then he thought of the perfect place. He typed the location on the keyboard. The screen lit up and asked for a date and year. He typed in the request and the computer slowly began to countdown. Raymond also chose the disguise function so he could blend into his surroundings. He pushed the engage button. The room slowly became the tropical island resort that his parents had been planning to take him to last year, but had to cancel at the last minute. The staff member who was going to be left in charge suddenly resigned and they could not find anyone to manage the cafe while they were gone. He remembered how disappointed he had been. But he was here now and he was going to enjoy himself if only for an hour!
