the first half of the day was stereotypically boring. y/n didn't hate it as much as she had hated school in previous years, though. the people seemed more chill, and she could actually take classes she liked.
all day she had been subconsciously searching for tommy, or really any familiar face she could locate. she discovered she had one class with him. a film class that she was only taking to fill her schedule. it honestly had nothing to do with her major, which was dance. she tried to catch tommy's eye as everyone got seated, and eventually he noticed her and she gestured to the seat next to her. he absolutely did not get the hint and thought she was waving, so he waved back cheerfully. annoyed, y/n just sat down, let a stranger fill the seat, and watched as tommy sat a couple rows in front of her.
the class was mostly just introductions and basic get-to-know-you stuff. the professor insisted they stand up and give their name, major, and one hobby. the only people y/n really remembered were becca, a film major with bright green dreadlocks; jordan, a drama major whose hobby was apparently running a foodtruck; and tommy, a film major whose hobby was gaming. when it came to y/n she stood awkwardly and nearly tripped over the leg of her chair.
"um, i'm y/n, my major is dance, and my hobby is... well uh- dancing obviously." she tried to laugh off the awkwardness as everyone clapped for her (something the professor insisted on doing for everyone.) she was thrilled when the bell rang and she could escape the room that now felt far too small. as she walked through the crowd of students and mindlessly chatted with becca, the one with the neon dreads, she thought about different things she could've and should've said. "i'm y/n, a dance major, and i play piano." "i'm y/n, i'm majoring in dance, and i like to draw." all of these statements sounded so much better than stuttering out to a group of uninterested teens that she, a dance major, liked to dance.
she was snapped out of her daydream when becca tapped her on the shoulder. "hello? earth to y/n."
"sorry, i was just thinking about how awkward that introduction thing was," y/n explained, slightly embarassed.
becca rolled her eyes. "tell me about it. i cant believe i said my hobby was sewing. i've never even touched a sewing machine, i just panicked."
y/n couldn't help but laugh at how embarrassed she looked, a blush covering her dark skin. becca seemed cool. she wondered if it would be overstepping to ask her to lunch. "hey," becca blurted out, "do you wanna get lunch with me? i was planning on going to mcdonald's or something since i heard the cafeteria food is disgusting."
y/n was so relieved. "sure, yeah! i was actually gonna ask you, but i didn't wanna seem creepy." cool. they were already on some telepathic shit.
as they got into the car, laughing about how the film professor sounded like the guy from back to the future, becca suddenly gasped from the driver seat. confused, y/n's eyes shot up to her and watched her point at tommy sat on a bench. y/n kept glancing back and forth between him and her new friend, wondering why she was looking at him like he was elon musk. then she remembered he was famous.
"oh, yeah that's tommy. i talked to him this morning."
"WHAT." she yelled so loud y/n cringed, and tommy glanced up, looking at them through the windshield. "that's insane. tommyinnit goes to my school. our school. tommyinnit goes to our school." she was practically turning blue.
after lots of talk about how "he's just a guy," and "we don't wanna make him uncomfortable," y/n finally got becca to calm down. meanwhile, tommy still stared at them, extremely confused by the scene he was watching unfold inside the car. y/n took notice of this, and stuck her head out the window. "staring is rude, y'know." she said with a smile. she found that the secret to making friends is to pretend like you've known them forever.
he slowly approached the vehicle, and becca had to take deep breaths in order to act civil. when he got to the window, he sort of just stood there awkwardly and waited for one of the girls to say something first, which y/n was happy to do.
"we're headed to mcdonald's. feel free to hop in. i'll pay for you," she blurted. damn it. why would she offer to pay? did she really want him to go that badly? she kept a smile on her face while she mentally punched herself. after a bit of silence tommy agreed and climbed into the back while becca gripped onto the steering wheel in an attempt to stay calm. they began their drive to wendy's in an awkward silence at first, until becca just couldn't handle it any more.
"IMSOSORRYBUTIREALLYLIKEYOURCONTENT ANDYOURESUPERCOOLANDIDONTWANT TOFREAKYOUOUTBUTWOWIMINTHESAMECAR ASTOMMYINNITWOW." right as she said it she clapped her hand over her mouth, knowing she had ruined her chances of being friends with him. y/n grumbled and rested her head on the dashboard in order to avoid the looks of both her classmates. tommy just laughed that loud obnoxious laugh. "i'm so sorry," becca said with her eyes still wide in horror at her own words, "i'm usually chill, i'm gonna be chill now." tommy couldn't stop laughing, and eventually the girls couldn't help but join in. they laughed and laughed all the way until they pulled into the mcdonald's parking lot. even as they got out of the car they were still chuckling, and becca was still red.
tommy held the door for them just as he had this morning for y/n. they walked into the mcdonald's, which was unreasonably cold, and began to order at the counter. as they ate their food, y/n felt the ball of anxiety unravel in her stomach, and talking to her new friends became easier and easier. they learned a lot about each other. beccas actual hobby was theatre, and she lived with her single dad and baby sister. tommy was an only child living with his parents and a humongous following, and y/n was a girl who had been dancing since she was three, and apparently was also into gaming. they quickly lost track of time and were startled when tommy jumped up, yelling about their next class period.

okayyy i don't wanna make y/n's character too specific because i want you to be able to self insert and stuff, so i'm rly sorry if the whole dance thing doesn't fit your vibe, i just needed to give her a hobby and a major. anyways hope u enjoy!! lemme know if y'all got any complaints or requests.oh and happy new year!!
