first person pov:

days went by, then weeks, then a month. becca, tommy and i grew closer and closer, tommy and i often gaming together and all three of us going to lunch and spending probably an unhealthy amount of time together. this particular monday morning was groggy, as all monday mornings are. i practically had to crawl out of bed, my only motivation being that i would be able to see tommy's cheerful face and beccas go-gettem attitude. however, as i tied my shoes, a knock came from my door, and through the peephole i spotted a familiar head of blonde hair.

"tommy! um... why are you at my house?" i understood how he found it, our last name was on a fancy calligraphy sign out front, but i didn't understand why he couldn't wait for me to get to the bus stop. he seemed embarassed, like he had only just realized he was at my house.

"you were a bit late so i figured i'd come by." i didn't understand why he seemed so anxious, but i shrugged it off and followed him out the door. as we walked i noticed him fidgeting, which he only did when something was truly bothering him.

"everything alright? you seem weirdly anxious." he seemed surprised, like he didn't expect me to notice.

"yeah, i just have a big stream tonight."

"oh right, the festival. don't stress it, you've had plenty of big streams in the past and they've gone great." it was almost cute how nervous he was over something he was so good at.

the screech of braking tires interrupted our conversation. that's when we noticed the bus in the distance, already stopped at our bus stop. cursing, tommy took off in a sprint and i followed right after. my feet began to burn and my lungs filled with the chilly morning air. tommy was far faster than me, yelling for the bus driver to wait. either he didn't hear or didn't care, because just as we thought we would make it, he took off. tommy tripped over his own feet and went rolling down the sidewalk, taking me down with him as i tripped over his legs. my knee hit the ground first, tearing a hole in my pants. it took me a moment to process what had just happened, and when i did, knowing how stupid we looked absolutely sent me. i rolled over on my stomach, laughing loudly into my arms. i don't know why it was all so funny to me. tommy eventually laughed along, but he seemed far more embarassed than i was. as a rolled back over onto my back, a well-manicured hand reached out to me.

"wow, that was some fall you two took." confused, i slowly took the strangers hand and was lifted to meet her eyes. they were icy blue, and her hair fell in long waves down her shoulders. our eyes only met for a moment before she moved on to tommy, lifting him off the concrete and giving him time to brush himself off before speaking again. "i saw you guys topple over and i couldn't just let you lay there." everything about this girl was beautiful, down to her voice. tommy seemed to take notice of this as well, staring at her in awe as she spoke.

"i'm y/n, and this is tommy," i told her, hoping i could snap tommy out of whatever trance she had him in.

"i'm ariel." finally tommy seemed to get ahold of himself, and came back to reality.

"thanks for spotting the most embarrassing event of my life," he joked, causing her to laugh a lovely, silky laugh.

"don't worry about it." they locked eyes for a little too long for comfort. "um, i hope this isn't weird but, could i get your number?" the question took even me by surprise. she asked it so casually, after knowing this guy for about 45 seconds. tommy responded with equally as much confidence.

"sure!" i swear to god i almost passed out. tommy? tommyinnit? having game? getting a girls number? being not awkward? it was like a proud mother moment. ariel gave me a smile and a small wave, before disappearing around the corner. it was silent for a few seconds before tommy gasped.

"oh my god."

"i know, you just a hot girls number. you're a new man." but he shook his head at me.

"it's not just that. look." he stuck his phone in my face, his hands practically shaking. i read the text on the screen.
