Chapter 20

Louise's POV

I'm in the hotel room I'm sharing with Amelia. My heat is at 9:30 am tomorrow. I was supposed to compete today but due to bad weather conditions they pushed back the last group.

"Are you excited tomorrow you'll find out if you'll be competing in the Olympics." she screamed

"I wanna throw up." I told her

"Remember you have your good luck charm."

"Yeah"

My dad gave me his necklace that his grandfather gave him. He told me whenever I was scared or nervous to hold the charm and remember he always rides with me

"So what's going on with you and that guy?" She pulled me out of thought

"Oh we're dating. He even met my family."

"Aren't you moving fast?"

"I don't think so. He just wanted permission so we wouldn't have to sneak around." I explained

"He's a senior, so what happens when he's leaves for college at the end of the summer?"

"That's in the future though." I shrugged

"Yeah like a month. Next week is May 1st which is college decision day. Then graduation is mid May. I don't get why you're getting attached when you won't even see each other after August. You should focused on surfing and leave him to focus on school and whatever else he does." she said harshly

"Why are you being so mean? Can't you just be happy for me. Even if we break up just let me enjoy things while it lasts. I like him and he likes me. That's enough for now."

"What if he wants to go away?" she asked

"It'll suck a lot but I would never force him to stay in Cali to be with me. I'm not selfish."

"I'm not saying you are. I just don't want to see you hurt. Being in love can hurt."

"I've never been in love before so I wouldn't know." I shrugged

"Well I have and I still am. It hurts when you can't be with the person you love. Take it from me. Your true love might just be closer than you think."

"Will you ever tell me who you're in love with?" I asked

"One day I will but now isn't the time."

"When will be the time?"

"I'm not sure yet." she frowned

"Hey, let's watch the Little Prince. It's your favorite movie after all." I changed the topic

"Sure."

We got into bed and fell asleep watching the movie

Morning

It's 5:00am Amelia is fast asleep. I got up and took a cold shower to wake up. Afterwards I braided my hair back into two Dutch braids then twisted both ends into low buns.

Afterwards I got into surf trunks and my competition jersey

Feeling anxious I reached for my necklace and didn't feel it around my neck

"It's gone! It's gone!" I shook Lia up

"What? What's gone?" she rubbed the sleep out her eyes

"My necklace is gone!" I screamed

"You probably left it in the bathroom."

"I don't take it off, I never take it off!" I panicked even more
