At six twenty, the Rivengale Express stopped to drop off passengers in the town of Batilde, then resumed its course at six forty-five towards Matumi. As the clock ticked forward along with the progression of the train towards its destination, Soraya grew more and more anxious about seeing the other side of her country for the first time.

I miss you, Papa.

The snowy Averlore Mountains were long gone from view like a faded memory. Instead, the landscape outside was replaced with a lush green countryside. Floating islands were scattered across the bright blue sky, all tied down to tall stone pillars. As beautiful as everything looked, it didn't feel like home anymore.

Around seven, the girl took out a pencil and sketched the Syraple Tree into her journal. After many repeated attempts of drawing lines, closing her eyes, sighing, scrubbing an eraser back and forth over her newly made marks, and attempting again, she had finally completed her picture and was satisfied with the final outcome. She then added a bullet list of facts about the tree next to her sketch before asking the train attendant, Dinah, for the time. Much to her dismay, all of that work had only taken one hour to complete.

Today is going to be a very long day...

Around eight in the morning, both Soraya and Yabo walked several laps up and down the caboose hallway together.

At eight twenty, Soraya read through all the pages she had memorized from her father's personal library two nights prior. She learned that Earth Magic was deemed the most powerful and influential of all four Elements. The reason for this was because it gave Etherians the ability to connect with and understand nature.

"Plants that are hundreds of years old have the potential of passing along information of what they have seen in the past," she read aloud. "Many murder cases, for example, have been solved because the trees, bushes, and sometimes even flowers, were witnesses of the event."

"It is said that once the blood of the victim is spilled on the ground, it's swallowed up by the soil and absorbed into the roots of all the plants in that surrounding area. If a Mage were to use Earth Magic to connect with those plants, they could then replay the whole scene of what had taken place within the person's mind."

I wonder if Papa ever tried using Earth Magic to find out who murdered Mama.

Soraya then supposed it was possible that there hadn't been any plants around the location of where her mother died, but promised herself to investigate in the future.

Around twelve, Soraya and Yabo ate lunch together. Soraya was given a fresh batch of boiled khinkali filled with lamb, mushrooms, white cheese and broth, along with slices of apples and bottled cloudberry cider. Each dumpling looked like a tiny white bag, twisted counterclockwise and bunched up at the top. The proper way of devouring them was bitting off the tip, drinking the inside contents, and eating the remaining portion.
