We'd only walked for about a half an hour, when Vern started complaining.

"I'm hungry," he groaned, "who brought the food?" I glanced around the group, wondering that myself. They all looked around too, and then Vern got upset.

"I didn't, I thought you guys were gonna!" he yelled.

"Jesus Chris Vern, just shut up. Let's see how much money we have..." Gordie muttered, and I dug into my bag, pulling out two dollars.

"Alright, two from Van, one from me, 50 cents from Teddy, 39 cents from Chris, and...really Vern? 7 cents?" Gordie asked, and we all gave Vern a look.

"What?! I didn't find my pennies yet!" he exclaimed, and I shook my head.

"How about this, we fill our canteens at the junkyard, then we can have someone run the nearest gas station for something?" Chris said, and we all agreed. We were a short ways away from Milo Pressman's junkyard, and luckily his shift didn't start until 3, which was about an hour away. The rails started to vibrate under our feet, and we jumped off the tracks. Except Teddy.

"Teddy, what the hell are you doing?!" Chris yelled. Teddy didn't seem to hear, and stared down at the train and murmered,

"Train dodge, dig it."

The train was quickly approaching, and by now we were all screaming at him. Seeing as that was getting us nowhere, I made the stupid decision to push him off the tracks. I launched myself up and tackled Teddy off the tracks, just as the train whizzed by.

"What the fuck where you thinking?!" I screamed in between coughs.

"I-i was gonna kill myself..." he mumbled, not meeting my eyes.

"Teddy, why on earth would you want to do that?" I asked quieter.

"I don't know, it was just something I felt as if I had to do," he said, and even though I knew he didn't want me to see, a tear slowly ran down the side of his cheek. The rest of the guys joined us on the other side of the tracks, and helped us up.

"Don't do that man, you scared the piss outta me," Chris muttered, yanking Teddy off the ground.

"Yeah, whatever," Teddy said, his tough exterior coming back.

We continued on our way to the junkyard, the sun beating down on us. Finally, we came to the junkyard fence.

"Paratroops over the side!" Teddy yelled, and threw his canteen and bag over the fence. I looked at Gordie and shrugged, then tossed my stuff over as well. I quickly scaled the fence, and landed on my hands and knees.

"Jeez, are you part monkey or something?" Teddy asked, landing beside me.

"Maybe," I said, laughing, and grabbed my stuff. We walked over to the small pump, and filled our canteens. We found a small overhang of metal that providing some shade and hunkered under it.

"So who's gonna go get the food?" Vern asked, and we all pointed to a different person.

"Let's flip for it," Gordie said, pulling out 5 nickels of our money. We flipped, and took our hands off, revealing all tails.

"Aw man, a goocher! This can't be good," Vern groaned.

"C'mon Vern, do you really believe that crap?" Teddy asked, flipping his coin again. We all did the same, and this time Gordie was the only one with tails.

"Go get the provisions, you morphodite," Teddy said, laughing his signature laugh.

"Oh, shut up," Gordie said, standing up.

"I don't shut up," Teddy started, and we all joined in, "I grow up. And when I look at you I throw up" We all made puking noises and Gordie sighed and said,

"Then your mother goes around the corner and licks it up." We all oohed, knowing it was highly admirable to find new ways to degrade a friend's mother. Gordie walked off, and we decided to play a trick on him and wait on the other side of the fence. We waited for probably a half an hour, until we saw Gordie sprinting towards the fence and the dreaded cry,

"Sic him Chopper, sic him boy!"
