Chapter. 2 : yesterdays rival, today's friend

Author's POV

"Long time no see, Ranpo-kun/(Y/n)-Chan"

The woman entered the office in confidence, sounds of her high heels tapping against the ceramic ground echoed throughout the room. It was her first day at police station but unlike others, she wasn't stressed at all. The entrance exam was enough itself as it already has taken all her stress, for now. She sat behind her desk among other desks that were filled with files. Sitting behind it, she felt satisfied in that moment.

Reunion with her long old friend wasn't that bad it seems. (Y/n) wondered if that's the reason she has no stress, yet she couldn't help but wonder why that spiky haired detective was here. She could ask, but she doubted if they would answer right away to someone who has just become police, let along if it's about the best detective.

She let out a sight, tried to bother at all and brushed it off. Left that for another time they meet. If they meet. 'I wonder what will be for my first task' she though while kept her (e/c) eyes at ceiling. And as if someone just heard her, she heard her name being called "(L/n) (Y/n)" her eyes snapped wide as she stood up straight in one second "yes sir?" She asked confidently, although she was a bit stressed now.

"It's your first day as an official police, right?" Asked the police officer, Minoura "yes sir" same reply, but less stress "we've received a report of a lost cat just now, seems the owner is really attached to the cat and mentioned she wants this case solved before afternoon" he sighed "we usually don't accept such reports since we're already busy with harder and dangerous ones but it'll be good for your first case" the last part of sentence stucked in woman's head

"My first case?" Officer Minoura extended the file to woman to grab "you've passed the entrance exam, plus the case isn't a hard one" convinced, the woman grabbed the file and looked through it. There was a picture of the cat and its information plus the address of the owner "you can go to owner to ask her questions. Remember it's your first case, make sure to finish it before the afternoon" again, she felt stressed, or maybe, misunderstood by the last part. But the case was the case, she had to solve it.

"Understood, sir"

For agency, it was calm day, only a few clients came and went. Although the blonde detective would often scold everyone for not working scheduled. It was fine for everyone.

The certain silver haired boy was doing paperwork as usual, glancing at everyone once a while "Haruno-San, care to pull out this marble for me?" The spiky haired detective showed the ramune "right away, Ranpo-San" a 'cracking' sound and the ramune was broken "you wanted this, Ranpo-San?" The man grabbed the green marble and held it right in front of sunlight which was gazed inside.

"Yeah, marbles are so cool" he smiled, spinning the marble on his finger. The albino looked at him with some kind of...observing expression as he remembered morning

"Long time no see, Ranpo-kun/(Y/n)-Chan"

"Huh?" The albino was rather confused as the woman walked to them

"It's been quite a while, a detective already?" The woman's tone held some sort of sarcasm, maybe she was teasing

"I have always been detective, the best one! I actually knew you will come here" he smiled proudly

"Oho? Same deductions as always?" She smiled teasingly "hmph" Ranpo grinned

"A-ano..?" The albino couldn't handle the awkwardness after moments of silence

The woman's eyes turned to the boy who was standing beside Ranpo, a bit stressed "and who's this boy? Is he your assistant?" The albino felt even more awkward, just wanted to leave after hearing this question, he already knew the answer

"Hey, of course not! I'm not an amateur detective, I don't need any assistant! Atsushi is just my coworker in agency" Ranpo whined "I'm Nakajima Atsushi, nice to meet you" he glanced up at the woman, some sort of awkward in his tone. The woman smiled "i see, i'm (L/n) (Y/n). Well, I have to go now. See you guys later" she waved the males as she passed them further into the office

"Good luck on your first case, (Y/n)-Chan"

The sliver haired boy gazed at his superior 'I didn't know Ranpo-San has rival,......they must have known each other for long..' he thought "Oi, brat" hearing his superior, the albino's breath hitched as he turned to the blonde detective "are you done with paperworks?" Though it was his usual expression, to albino it seemed angry as he couldn't help his stress "Y-yes! Just two...No, three papers more, i'll do them in moments i promise!" He hurriedly looked through the papers as he slightly bowed to Kunikida

"Alright, be faster. We don't have all time for that, i don't want to stay off of schedule" he sighed. Knowing how much his schedule was precious for him, Atsushi nodded. The blonde man turned his head towards the elder man who was sitting on his desk with his back facing everyone. Gazing at his marble that was same color as his eyes

While he was looking out of the window, a white cat caught his closed eyes as it was walking on the sidewalk. The smile on his face disappeared as he focused on the white cat on the other side of road. Its sky blue eyes stared at the detective like it was looking right through him, before passing the agency.

The spiky black haired detective smirked as he hopped off of his desk, taking everyone's attention "something's matter, Ranpo-San?" The blonde man, known as Kunikida asked "Yeah...i want to go outside" his tone loud enough for everyone to hear "but haven't you just came back from mission?" Kunikida raised his brow.

"Did you say something, Kunikida?" His tone didn't had anger or anything, not facing the blonde man, plus it was obvious he is smiling. Yet the blonde man regretted interrupting "a...No, well brat, accompany Ranpo-San" he turned to the albino while Atsushi looked at him, before his face turn to "what just now' kind of expression

"Huh?...b-but what about the paperworks?" He just accompanied the best detective this morning but knew he couldn't say no, his responsibility didn't let him to "i'll tell someone else to do it, you go with Ranpo-San" he shifted his glasses "y-yes" he placed the papers on his desk

"This must be here" the (h/c) haired woman looked from the written address on the paper at the green doors of a house in front of her. And is suddenly she sensed figure walking to her, she turned to her right. And was taken aback by the person "Officer Minoura!?"

"I came to check how you will do your first case" he stopped a few feet from her. She understood even after passing entrance exam, this also was a test. She smiled and turned to the door, knocking the dyed wooden door

"Where are we going, Ranpo-San?" The curiosity was eating the albino as they were walking for more than ten minutes. "Hm?" The spiky haired detective glanced at the younger man with closed eyes "we're already here" he smiled as he looked forward. The silver haired tiger boy just noticed they were already in a block and in front of them standing a familiar woman and a familiar police officer. "W-wait...aren't they....?" He already guessed who they were.

It took a few moments before a woman open the door "how can i help you?" She asked on guard "Hi, i'm (L/n) (Y/n), we're from Yokohama's police station. We've received the report of your lost cat. I'm here to ask some questions and hopefully, we can find your cat." The woman's speech was filled with confidence, she didn't even stutter. The woman raised her brow in realization and nodded.

"Alright, let's begin with questions. Shall we?"
