Y/n's POV

Severus Snape was my best friend and long time crush during our time at Hogwarts, only he never seemed to see me as anything more than a friend due to the fact that he was head over heels in love with our other friend, Lily Evans, who saw him as nothing more than a friend. That friendship was ruined though when Severus called her a mudblood in our 7th year. After that he never really spoke to me again and pushed me away whenever I tried to talk to him. That was 15 years ago and in that time a lot had changed. Lily had married mine and Severus' tormentor James Potter and had given birth to a little boy Harry and I had become a medi-witch at St. Mungos. I was one of the nurses that was on duty when Frank and Alice Longbottom had been brought in and deemed insane. Now, I'm standing at the bottom of the path up to Hogwarts after Albus had come to me during the holidays to ask if I'd like to help Poppy in the infirmary. I told him that I'd have to run it past the head matron at St Mungos and she had agreed straight away after stating that 'the poor woman could only do so much'. Shaking myself out of my thoughts I walk up the winding path to the castle and am greeted with a tight hug from Minerva which made me chuckle as she pulled away from me. "It's so good to see you again y/n, we were beginning to think that you'd forgotten about us." She tells me and I smiled at her as she led me inside. "How have you been?"

"It's good to see you too Minerva, it's certainly been too long. As for forgetting you guys, who could ever forget you?" I tell her honestly before adding. "I've been okay. If I'm honest I don't think that I've done much more than work for the last few years." This gets a chuckle and shake of the head as we near the great hall. Walking in I'm immediately greeted by everybody except one, Severus Snape. Ignoring his presence I sit down to catch up with everyone while we eat and once dinner is finished I'm shown to my rooms, which happened to be in the dungeons by Severus', by Albus who leaves after a parting hug and that ever glowing twinkle in his eyes. Walking into the rooms I find my suitcases in the middle of the living room and cast a wandless spell to unpack my things and place them in their correct places. Once this was done I sat down in front of the fire with a glass of firewhiskey. I had been sitting there for a while sipping from my glass and staring into the fire as I think back on my time at Hogwarts and get snapped broken out of my thoughts when there's a knock at the door and I get up with a sigh to answer it. Opening the door I instantly regret my decision when I see Severus standing there. "What do you want, Severus?" I ask as I turn away from him to walk back over to the fireplace with him following behind me after closing the door behind him.

"I came to see how you were settling in." He tells me as he sits down in the chair next to mine and I look at him with a raised eyebrow because in all these years he has never once cared to reach out and ensure that I was okay. "I also came here to apologise. For pushing you away, for calling Lily a mudblood and for how I acted tonight. You didn't deserve any of it and I'm sorry for how I've been treating you since we graduated."

"I've settled in well Severus." I tell him as I pass him a tumbler of firewhiskey which he takes with a smile. "I understood why you pushed me away, you wanted Lily not me and I understood that. I don't know why you're apologising to me for calling Lily a mudblood though."

"I'm apologising to you for it because it put you in the middle. I saw you talking to Lily and then you'd come to me. I saw how sad you it was making you." He told me and I chuckle while shaking my head because I wasn't upset because of that, I was upset because he was completely blind about how I felt about him. "What?"

"I wasn't upset because of that you idiot! I was upset because I had been in love with you since fourth year and you were completely clueless because you were head over heels in love with Lily." I tell him with a forced chuckle as I look at the fireplace and sip from my glass as I lean back in my chair I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest and I took a large gulp of my firewhiskey.
