Kedho was best described as a metropolis hewn from mirrors.

Gleaming towers called stambhas functioning as solar harvesters kissed the evening sky, wearing the warm colours of the sunset. Their glass panels and those embedded into the intricate windows of the sandstone buildings held faithful reflections of the streets and highways branching through the city. Far away from the bustle of the city, the temple of the Mirror Mother glistened against the orange sky atop its perch on the sacred hill.

Traffic was slow and steady, with both pedestrians and tram passengers eager to return home for the day. Seven-headed Ucchaisravai horses, magnificent beasts the size of three men browsed on the large trees shading the sidewalk. Their tails dusted the flies off their down-covered haunches, and their feathery fetlocks crushed the fallen leaves. Seven pairs of long rabbit-like ears swung forward as the tram driver whistled, the silver bells on their necks jingling wild and free as the horses trotted away. The Ucchaisravai cantered through the streets, pulling behind them creaky wooden carriages stuffed with commuters sweating in the summer heat.

Magical energy born from the evening sun's rays powered the Capital city from behind the curtains. It helped the water from the Kaidehi river reach the mouths of thirsty pedestrians and horses through pipes, hand-pumps, taps and drinking fountains. Buildings wore huge suncollector lotuses on their roofs, automatically aligning their petals to absorb maximum solar radiation. Within their torii, transmutator crystals converted solar energy into a usable form to power the machinery. A flash of black and gold streaked across the swirling, blue solar-glass petals of the suncollectors.

The mage apprentice landed on a roof, kneeled under the impact and sprinted across the patch of artificial lotuses. Daminey's biceps ached from carrying citizens during her rescue marathon. Her arms held up the sailor's soaking wet back and the hook of her knees, cradling her head against her chest. She drew the woman closer to her body as she pushed herself off the ledge of the roof and into the neighbouring stambha's glass panel.

Her pupils contracted as she saw her fast-approaching reflection in the smoky glass.

Her Samudra's organ burned within the pit of her chest, pumping magical energy into the mage's muscles, golden tattoos and dark skin-armor. The air between her and the glass panel glimmered and acquired a membranous consistency. It slowed her down and held her suspended mid-air over the busy street.

In that split second, her irises turned bright yellow as she shifted her spectrum of vision from visible light to living auras emitted by souls. The colours of the panels faded to pitch black, bordered by chalk outlines. Within their chalked cages, the lifeforms inhabiting them flickered into view like lighted wicks. The humans were probably the engineers monitering the stambha's functioning. The apprentice focused on crow-shaped flame flying outside the furthest wall of the building.
