we spent the rest of the day at the beach until late night. it was clear tommy meant it as a joke, but i couldn't help but wish it wasn't.

"sof? you okay?" cara stops me as george and tommy get out the car.

tommy turns around, looking for me and i gesture for him and george to go in.

"tommy made a joke and i- i'm just overreacting," i sigh.

"well what did he say?" she urges me to tell her.

"he said and i quote 'i'm hopelessly devoted to you.'"

her mouth drops open and she has a small smile on her face.

"sofia. that definitely was not a joke."

i couldn't help but think about what cara said. it might not be a joke for him? i sigh, resting my head in my hands. i sit on the doorstep outside my house, biting my lip.

"sofia?" clay questions, i can hear the worry in his voice.

" i can't be with tommy," i tell him, my voice breaking.

"what?" his tone is soft.

"because i love him," i attempt to explain.

"you love him?"

"it's better off this way."

"you're saying that like he would prefer to not have you in his life," he states, the frustration clear in his voice.

"maybe it would be better off that way," i whisper.

"sofia. how do you not see how happy you make him?" he growls.

"i feel like i'm just a burden. even being close to me takes a lot," i bite my lip harder to stop the tears from spilling down my face.

"i hate to see you like this," he sighs, engulfing me in a hug.

"i love you," i mutter.

"i love you too," he pulls away.

"now all you have to do is tell tommy you love him," his eyes sparkle as he smirks.

"oh shove off clay," i roll my eyes at him.

he ruffles my hair, getting up and wiping his hands on his jeans. he heads inside, leaving me on the doorstep alone.

i eventually get up, feeling pretty hungry and deciding to get something to eat.

i look for the ingredients to make spaghetti, and start boiling my pasta.

***

"it smells good in here," tommy says, sitting in the seat next to me.

"there's more over there," i gesture to the pan as he grabs a fork.

"i'd rather take yours," he grins, taking some off my plate with his fork.

"you suck."

"you love me," he taunts.

only if you knew.

"pfft, you wish," i scoff.

he then reaches over for more spaghetti and i quickly slap his hand, making his fork drop.

"hey!" he pouts.

i laugh at him, twirling the spaghetti around my fork.

he then grabs my fork and stuffs the spaghetti in his mouth, leaving me open-mouthed.

"what the fuck did i just witness?" george asks, standing in the doorway of the kitchen.

"tommy being a bitch," i glare at him.

i huff, most of the spaghetti gone from my plate when i get an idea.

"tommy, do you see that in the spaghetti?" i ask innocently.

"i'm not falling for that."

"then we can do it the hard way," i smirk mischievously.

before he has time to process what i said, he has a plate on his face and spaghetti dripping all over him.

george giggles slightly, quickly covering his mouth.

tommy then smiles slowly.

"sofia, you want a hug?" he asks me sweetly.

shit.
