It's been about 3 months since Castle and Beckett recovered from the shooting at the loft. They were both happy and healthy as can be. Especially knowing that they're expecting. So Castle threw a small get together at his Hamptons beach house, to celebrate.

Lanie was quietly sipping on the piña colada in her hand as she sat on the porch outside. The music blaring in the background was just a quiet hum in the back of her mind. She closed her eyes, enjoying the gentle breeze of the fresh Hamptons air, allowing herself to relax.

She heard footsteps approaching, but didn't bother to look.

"What are you doing out here all alone?" the familiar voice that still gives her butterflies questioned.

Turning to her side, Lanie smiled when she saw her favorite detective sit down beside her, his own drink in his hand. Esposito had a look of concern on his face. But she brushed him off.

"Just enjoying the fresh air" she admitted, a soft smile playing at her lips "It's not everyday that you get to breathe air as fresh as this. Especially not at a morgue" she joked.

"The party's inside though" he stated.

"No offence, Javi..but I think we're getting a little old for parties" she said.

He couldn't help but smile "The way you just left, people are gonna think you're upset or something" he said.

She shrugged casually, as if unbothered at all "Who cares" she said.

He wasn't sure what's wrong with her. She seemed accepting and loose. A little too loose, actually. But the way her eyes shined under the afternoon sun, made him smile. He doesn't understand how he could still find her so beautiful after all these years.

"How's the drink?" he asked.

She lifted the glass to her lips and sipped "Delicious" she said playfully.

He smirked "Are you drunk, already?" he questioned teasingly.

She didn't even roll her eyes, instead, she laughed "Maybe.. But you'd have to get me another drink to get a definitive answer" she said.

He frowned "Are you okay?" he asked.

She inhaled a lung full of air and sighed, letting her shoulder fall as she relaxed "Never better" she admitted, then turned to face him "Why?" she asked.

He shrugged "You just seem...different" he said.

"A good different, I hope" she said with a smile.

He couldn't help but mirror her smile. Has she always been so cute?

"Really good" he agreed "But it's still a little weird.." there was a pause "Is it because of Alan?" he questioned.

She threw her head back, letting out a hearty laugh, then shoved him playfully "Funny, but no. I mean he's cute, and hard to say no to. But he's not my type" she stated simply then shrugged "I dunno.. I just feel...serene. Like there's nothing life could throw my way that I can't overcome" she said.

He hummed "So I'm guessing this has something to do with Castle and Beckett" he guessed.

She shook her head with a smile "You know, I've always loved how good you are at your job. It's one of the main reasons I fell in love with you" she said, so casually in fact, he had to double take "Well that, and..we work amazing together. But last I checked, we're not at the precinct. You can stop detecting now" she said.
