It was the day Felix dreaded the truth that he had his choices. All this while he never had a choice.

Green streaks of hair falling off his face, blocking him from the sight of students who had just arrived in the library. Felix squinted his eyes at an ancient article he managed to obtain from the history section in the red room of his university's library. The red room consisted of articles, papers, and journals dating from ancient civilizations. In the book next to the bamboo article he was holding, Felix squinted his eyes at his own writing, studying them again. Lifting the pen in front of him, the words were scratched off and replaced with new words. He adjusted the mistakes and slumped himself down on the chair.

Stretching his aching muscles, Felix turned towards Gale's direction who seemed to be studying a scroll written in ancient Chinese. He marvelled at Gale's ability in picking up the languages so quickly, unlike him. They both often shared extra classes in learning new languages throughout their teenage years. Gale had always been quicker in recognizing the alphabets and symbols while he often mastered communicating in the language itself. Each to their own benefits, Gale often told him. Felix slumped himself down, cracked his fingers and tugged the jacket closer to his body while blowing warm air onto his palms. Outside, the rain was pouring so heavily, making him doubt the whole existence of air – conditions again.

Running his sight within the lines again, Felix hummed softly. He felt glad that the room only has a limit to two-person per time, so both he and Gale had all the privacy to themselves. Scanning the ticking clock at the edge of the room, he felt contented to know that he had another half an hour to go. Felix dug through his bag, pulling out the scroll and set it on the table. He rolled it out, studying the writings on it. Unlike the ancient scrolls he had read, this feels like nothing dangerous. It was at the moment when he read between the cursive writings, a voice pierced through his mind causing him to wince.

The scroll is a guide. You have to follow it closely to get out of this game. Until you learn to embrace the pain, accept it for what it is, then and only then you are the winner of this roulette.

"Felix," Gale called out, seeing the younger and settled the scroll into its shelf. "Is everything alright there?"

Felix nodded with his eyes shut. Arms supporting himself steadily. He felt Gale's arms around his shoulder, gently massaging his forehead. Slowly, Felix opened his eyes. He straightened his back, thanking Gale when he was offered an ointment to calm his nerves. Next to him, Gale trailed his fingers across the golden scroll, running his fingers onto those cursive writing as if recognizing it. He breathed out heavily, reading the notes Felix had taken and chuckled softly. Meeting Gale's eyes, Felix almost flinched at the sight. Gale's eyes seemed to be glowing in gold, pure gold like the ring his mother owned. Blinking his eyes, he saw Gale staring at him with questioning eyes. Felix shrugged.

"This is a very ancient scroll you are having Fel," Gale said, pointing at it as a sign to ask for Felix's permission to touch it. Only when Felix did nod, Gale picked it up carefully. He flipped the scroll around, studying the patterns that marked across it. Gale sucked in the air around him harshly.
