"I'm Kira."
The words echoed in (Y/n)'s head and her body was paralyzed in terror. She knew that L has solved well over thirty-five hundred cases, yet a part of her wanted to doubt that this time, just this once, he would be incorrect with his accusation. With the way Light had just acted, however, she knew that L's indictment was true; Light was, without a doubt, Kira.
"L—" she attempted to scream. Light, however, foresaw this and slammed his lips against hers once more to keep her from speaking. He pulled away from her, looking pleased with himself. She managed to catch a glimpse of the detective, who was now looking in their direction, his dark eyes gazing into hers. At this moment she felt weaker than ever — she had no idea what to do to handle the predicament she found herself in.
All (Y/n) could think about was that she was supposed to be a detective; she was supposed to be trained to handle situations like this, yet her mind was scrambled and she couldn't think straight. The girl, for once in her life, was clueless. It'd be useless to give up, however; she didn't quit that easily.
She knew she would have to get his attention somehow, but she didn't know how to get him to understand her; she could try screaming again, but she didn't want Light to do anything to her. "Light, what—" she tried speaking but was interrupted once more, thankfully not by his lips against hers.
"Shut up and listen to me," he muttered, "and don't think about trying anything or I'll kill you here and now." All she could do was nod her head in agreement; anything else would be too risky. After all, this was Kira she was dealing with, not Light.
"You're not going to speak about this to anyone, not even your buddy, L, okay?"
She nodded once more.
"I picked up a notebook that grants the user the power to kill people by the means of a heart attack. I didn't believe it at first until I tried it out on a few criminals who proceeded to die forty seconds later. After I found out this was genuine, I realized what I could do with this new power. Think about it, (Y/n), where is justice in this world? Why is it possible for murderers, rapists, burglars, to roam free — for this whole system to be corrupt? Why is it that innocent people get locked up to pay for the crimes of another? It doesn't make any sense.
"I want to fix this world. I want to make it a better place for people to live without the fear of any crime, so I started eliminating those criminals: those who didn't have lives ahead of them. To create a new world in which I am the new God and to create this perfect world, I need to eliminate everyone who wants to stop me. Do you know what that means,
(Y/n)?"She knew exactly what it meant: the entire task force, including the detective she had grown so fond of, would have to die — that the only way for Light to create his fantasy world was to kill anyone who dares to get in his way, including her. She looked at him with fear laced in her eyes. The Light sitting next to her was not the same Light she befriended three years ago. She knew that but wasn't sure if he was aware of that fact.
The brunette had a malicious look on his face as her eyes met his. He let out a small chuckle and put his hand on her shoulder. "If you tell anyone about this, you along with everyone you love will be dead. Remember, I'm going to be working alongside you now," he whispered in her ear, grinning wickedly with each word that spilled out of his mouth, "now let's get back to your little boy toy, shall we?"
(Y/n) walked back to the detective with Light trailing behind her, feeling shame smother her like a dark blanket. She hated that her lips had touched Lights, and especially hated that L had to watch it happen with no context of the situation she was in; he was completely in the dark and she didn't even know if she could tell him what happened without getting him hurt or even worse: killed.
She couldn't imagine a life without L — she didn't know what she would do. Yes, (Y/n) hadn't known the raven-haired boy for too long but she knew that after the moments they had shared, she would never feel that way about anyone else; he was special.
She could vividly remember the first night she met him; he laid his head on her lap and slept in her lap. That night was the first she had been relaxed — at true peace, for a long time, and after she shared a kiss with the detective, there was no doubt left in her mind: she was in love with him, and he was in love with her. A single tear rolled down the girl's cheek as she thought about the idea of messing up. One wrong move and they'd both be dead.
"I see you two shared a moment over there," L mumbled as the two arrived next to him, "what was that all about?" Her head was facing down but she could the pale man's stare on her. Before she had a chance to utter a response, Light grabbed her hand and laced his fingers between hers.
"I just asked her out, actually," Light grinned. This time his grin wasn't vicious in any way; although his smile was rather convincing, (Y/n) could see right through him. She finally gained the courage to look up at L, not because she wanted to look away from the ground but to hopefully be able to indicate she was in a difficult circumstance.
(Y/n) attempted to slip her hand out of Light's grasp, and successfully did so for a split second until he gripped her wrist tightly; she winced at the pain he caused, biting her lip to keep quiet.
The young girl maintained eye contact with L, noticing his eyes flickering downward for a moment before returning his fixation on her. He nodded ever so slightly, causing the girl to release a sigh of relief. L's investigative skills were truly impeccable; he had noticed. He was the world's greatest detective after all.

"Thanks for choosing such a nice place," L said to Light once they arrived in the coffee shop he picked out, "if you don't mind, (Y/n), sit next to me would you?" She nodded and gratefully slid into the booth, L following suit. Light shot the pair a distasteful look before sitting in the seat across from them.
"If we talk in this corner, we won't have to worry about eavesdroppers," Light mentioned, "also if we sit here you don't have to worry about how you sit."
"I'm used to sitting like this. If I sat like a normal person my deductive skills would be reduced by forty percent," L remarked.
(Y/n) remained silent, still unable to speak after what happened with Light; she was terrified that she would end up saying the wrong thing and risking the lives of the task force. Out of nervous habit, she picked at her nails and looked down to avoid any sort of confrontation.
Without warning, L's pale fingers interlocked with hers under the table; he stroked his thumb on the back of her hand as an attempt to comfort the girl. He was just beginning to become familiar with emotions and wasn't entirely sure if that would help, yet felt it was the right thing to do. "I'll get this over with as soon as possible, okay?" he said quietly so that only (Y/n) could hear, squeezing her hand slightly tighter, "there's no need to be nervous darling."
A small smile crept onto her face, which was quickly replaced to avoid any suspicion from the brunette sitting in the seat across then. The young woman knew that the situation they were in wasn't ideal, but she was just thankful that L knew the kiss between her and Light was fake, and the one between the two of them was real; she was thankful he wasn't upset.
"So, Ryuga," Light spoke, "what was it you wanted to talk about?"
