Varian's POV

I was laying down at the camp site that me, Nuru, yong, and hugo made, i was trying to get to sleep but i couldn't, i then heard soft footsteps, i turned around and saw hugo leaving camp, i sat up once hugo was gone, and so did yong and nuru, i guess they had problems sleeping as well, i looked at Nuru and yong, they looked back at me, "do we go after him?" Yong asked, i looked at nuru and we both nodded. We all stood up from where we were sitting and started to quietly follow Hugo

We were sneaking for a while until Hugo arrived at this camp, filled with really strong people, that all seemed to know him, the would give him small nods and he would nod back, then, i saw him sit across from donella, Me, Nuru, and Yong were all hiding in the bushes, being extremely quiet and listening to Hugo and Donella's conversation

"Its been 2 weeks Hugo, Why havent you earned any Idols yet!" Donella yelled

"Mom, it takes about a week of traveling on foot plus stopping at night to get rest, and it takes about a max of 2-3 days to actually find the place where the idols were, and another day to complete the challenges, weve only gotten one totem since you sent me to travel with them" Hugo said in his normal bored tone

"I cant let that boy free his mother" Donella said, in her harsh tone

"Wait, his mother? You said it was your lab partner" Hugo said in a slightly raised voice

"She is both, that boys mom, and my ex lab partner" Donella said

"Why did you trap his mom!?!" Hugo shouted

"She had info she refused to share with me, she was always stole my spot light during team work, and i hated her" Donella explained

Hugo stood up and walked away from Donella's camp, i looked at Nuru and yong, and they looked completely shocked, We knew we had to get back to the camp before hugo did, so we ran away back to the camp and luckily, we got back to the camp before hugo did, We all lied down and pretended to be asleep, and when hugo arrived he fell asleep, and soon enough, so did i

~the next morning~

I woke up to the smell of fire, i looked and saw Hugo was making something over the fire, "Morning Varian" He said, i stood up from where i was sitting, and sat across from Hugo, "Morning, what are you making?" I asked, "Eggs" Hugo answered, i smiled a bit, but then i remembered that hugo betrayed us and told Donella about our progress.......wait a sec, It only takes us 3-4 days to get to the villages, and 2 days to find and complete the challenges, we have gathered 3 idols since he joined us, He was lying to donella about our progress, i looked up at hugo and he looked at me, "You ok Goggles? Usually you like to talk science and alchemy facts while i cook" Hugo asked, i nodded and said "im ok".

Nuru and yong woke up and sat beside me, "ok, is something going on? Because noone is talking this morning" hugo asked,  Nuru looked like he was gonna kill hugo, "Were fine Hugo" Nuru said in a cold tone, i walked over to hugo and hugged him tightly, I looked at hugo and he had a confused look on his face, I sat beside hugo and basically spilled everything about what Me, Nuru, and Yong saw the night before. Hugo looked at me and he held my hand, "ill explain everything" Hugo said, Nuru and yong looked at hugo, and so did i, Hugo put his hand on my cheek, and he went on to explain everything, about how donella made him join my group, how he was supposed to betray me but he couldn't do that anymore, and how for the past few weeks, he has been lying about the progress of our quest,

when he finished explaining, he had tears at the end of his eyes, "im sorry" Hugo said, i wiped his tears away, and he looked at me with a confused and sorry look on his face, i leaned in slowly and kissed him softly, it took him about a second before he kissed back, when the kiss broke, i said "Hugo, To be honest, i was suspecting something like this, but as i spend more and more time with you, it makes me realize that even if you had bad intentions when you started, you have good intentions now, and if im being completely honest, Hugo.....i love you", he looked at me for a sec before hugging me tightly, i hugged back, then i felt another 2 pairs of arms join in,

when the group hug broke, Yong said, "We can do this, if we stick together", and yong is right, we can do this
