your POV

My mother slowly brushes my hair as I take deep breaths trying to console myself from crying any further. "Your growing my child, it's apart of life," she says as she continues stroking the brush through my hair.

"Why does growing up hurt?" I ask.
"Only for women my love, your brother and father know nothing of our struggles." My mother chuckles, she puts the brush down and wipes my remaining tears off my face.

"This sucks." I say.

I was in the middle of my daily chores as the future heir of the Cross family. Who is the Cross family you might ask?

The Cross family is one of the richest family's in this district. We supposedly helped King Fritz way back then. Anyways, I was in the middle of writing about myself for the next generation of Cross' when I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen. It was nothing I have ever felt before, then I stood up and saw blood on my chair. I screamed to my little lungs could handle and everyone came rushing in.

And now we're here.

"Why is a party happening for this again?" I ask my mother as she ties a bow into my hair. "Your finally ready to be initiated as the heir now that you've become a woman, and meet potential suitors for the future." She says humming a tune.

"Why does being a woman hurt?" I ask huffing. And why do I need a suitor? I'm only 12!

"Pain is only temporary (Y/N). Remember that, women are stronger than you may think. You will get through this. This is the way your father and his family have operated for ages." She kisses me on my cheek. She moves from where I am sitting in front of the vanity and heads towards my door.

"Guest should be showing up in 20 minutes, make sure you wear the dress I picked out." She says leaving my room. The door shuts softly, I look back at myself in the mirror and sigh. I pick up the white dress with blue accents around the waist.

"Of all colors why white?" I roll my eyes.

Pain is only temporary....

"(Y/N), there's a lovely lady!" Your uncle says, he pats my head. "Lovely to see you uncle." I curtsy and walk away.

I find my little brother, who's 10, and sit next to him. "Having fun?" He asks. His name is Keith, he's a quiet boy who loves reading as a hobby. His little glasses fit him nicely.

"No this is too much attention." I say breathing through the abdominal pain.

"Wanna sneak out to the barn?"
"Don't have to ask me twice." I giggle and hold my sibling's hand and our little patter of feet are drowned out by the classical music of the party. Him and I both head to the stall, just a 2 minute walk from the brick house.

Where the family horse, Blaze, and the family dog Kane, and Australian Shepherd are sleep under the moonlight. "There you two are." I say going up to Blaze and scratching his nose.
