Part 16

Michael replied to my question and said solemnly, "I tried to leave, but I can't. I need to find who killed me before I can go."

"And you decided following Alex would lead you to the killer? What happened if I wasn't here to translate for you?"

"I understand Alex's personality and know that he would have investigated my case. Alex would have noticed that I was gone after a day. I'm an exemplary employee who always shows up to work." He thought further and said, "There's no way Alex would let go of such a large deal. He'll find me at all costs."

I nodded in understanding and thought, definitely a great employee, Alex is working you even post death. On the side, Alex was patiently watching me speak to air. He joked, "Done talking to yourself yet?" then curiously asked, "What did you guys discuss?"

I replied, "We need to find Michael's dead body. That's the best way to prove his innocence. Remembering the gun that we found at the warehouse. I asked Alex if he finished investigating the suppliers yet. Aside from Bobby, who else would have access to these guns.

Alex picked up his office phone and dialed. On the line, he asked, "Marley, what's the progress on the supplier list? Got it, thank you." Alex went onto his computer and printed a list of names and profiles.

In the background, I hear Michael mentioning that he will try to investigate his death further and will return later. I nodded in acknowledgment.

Alex returned to the couches and laid out the pieces of paper on the coffee table and shared, "these are the list of suppliers that were awarded the business. Thankfully, they haven't started distributing yet. If they did, this would truly be picking a needle out of a haystack."

"We already know that Bobby has access to the guns aside from Bobby, who else?"

"In addition to Bobby, there is Leon and Erin; they both have access to the gun since they were chosen as the gun supplier.

Leon joined the arms transportation business recently. He was adopted into the Suga family when he was 15 years old. At the time, he was living with his younger sister, but since his adoption, no one has ever seen her. She may be the only person that he cares about. Since then he has taken the reigns and revitalized his adopted family business. Initially, just a small-time gang, they've used any method possible to take over other gangs. Today they're one of the top 3 gangs in the whole city. Lately, they started moving into the arms transportation business. We've been losing some market share to their aggressive tactics.

Erin is the princess of the Smith family. Her father created the empire and she has been groomed for the family business. She is equally as ruthless as Leon in a different way. Her father is still very active in the business with a lot of relationships with various gangs and suppliers. She is known to get what she wants."

I am not sure if I imagined this feeling, but I had a vague impression that Alex sounded bitter when speaking about Erin.

I couldn't help myself and ask, "Did Erin do something to you?"

Alex glanced at me for a few seconds and accused, "Did Michael mention anything?"

Eyes widening at the accusation, I said, "No, no, he didn't. I just had a feeling for some reason."

As if Alex's kindness from this morning was an allusion, he said, "Mind your own business, you're here to serve as a medium between Michael and I."

Rolling my eyes, I was ready to retort when Alex's phone rang.

"Hi boss, we found Michael."
