"bye wilbur! we will see you in a few days!" that was a lie.
you see, niki and river needed a way to get river on that plane without wilbur finding out. wilbur just thinks they are going on a girl's trip for the weekend. when in reality the girls are going to the airport so river can catch her flight and niki could go back home.
river was excited to go home not only did she miss karl, but she missed jimmy, chris, chandler, maddy, katie and baby tucker. they were there for her when she was at her lowest and she just left without saying anything to them
niki would miss river when they go separate ways but she knew it was for the best. she wanted river safe, even if it means being in a different country again.

by the time the girls got through airport security and reached rivers gate, her flight was getting ready to be boarded.
there was no point in sitting down, so the girls just stood near the entrance. they were both quiet, too sad to say anything.
as it was rivers turn to board the plane, she turned to niki and attacked her with a hug.
"im going to miss you niki!" river had started to cry. thank god she didn't wear any makeup, or else niki's white sweater would me messed up
"oh river! ill miss you too! promise to call me as soon as you land ok?" she asked the girl in front of her who nodded in response.
after a minute the girls heard the announcement for the last chance to board. river hugged niki for the last time before saying goodbye and heading toward the worker.
river handed the lady her ticket and proceeded to walk into the boarding bridge, but not before turning around to wave at niki, who just so happened to be waving at her.

a very tired river emerged from the plane as landed. and just as promised, she called niki before she walked over to find her luggage.
because it was very early in North Carolina and she needed the energy, she decided to go get a cup of coffee at starbucks. she was about to walk into the coffee shop when she heard a familiar voice.
"river!" she turned around to see him standing with his arms wide open.
"karl!"
