Mother's Mare
My mother once had her horse
One no one else could ride-
A beautiful, splotchy mare,
A sorrel overo
Who loved my mother.
She rode that mare everywhere-
Stood on her back to gather apples,
But Grandpa traded her,
And he never asked his daughter.
There's a statue of that mare,
Life-like and real
Twenty-five years after the fact,
Outside a farm somewhere
Of her mare-
The one no one else could ride.
Cochise.
