When Charles and his fiancée Charlotte announced  that they were expecting the couple were over the moon.  They had never really talked about having children as they weren't even married yet but the thought of having a little Charles or a little Charlotte running around the house exited them both immensely. 

The excitement  quickly dampened because Charlotte suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum a severe  form of morning sickness. Nothing she ate stayed in her body making  the first months of her pregnancy a living hell. The only light was the blood-test that determined the gender of the baby to be a girl. 

"Mon amour?", Charles said as he entered their shared monegasque apartment. " I stopped by the pharmacy on my way back  from the gym.  Maybe some of the medications will help you.". Charlotte didn't answer as she was once again hurdled over the toilet emptying her stomach. He rushed  to her,  holding back her hair and gently caressing  her back.  "Everything will be okay. I'm here now".  Charlotte had tears in her eyes. She hated being so vulnerable and almost lifeless. 

"I only had some oatmeal with raspberries and some tea. Nothing stays in, Charles. I don't know what to do.", she cried clinging onto him. He pulled her onto his lap, hugging her.  It was the first time he noticed that she lost weight. Even though she had a small bump, he noticed that she was "smaller" than normal. Her face was marked with dark circles under her eyes and her cheekbones were sticking out more  than normal. "I am in so much pain. My whole body aches and I can't even drink or eat without rushing to the toilet", Charlotte sobbed. 

"You know what the doctor said, mon amour. It will most likely settle in the second trimester and everything  will be back to normal", he laid his hand on her bump. " I'm sorry to have put you in this position. I wish I could at least carry some of this burden." Charlotte kissed his cheek lightly "I love you".

Charles helped Charlotte get up and carried her to the living room. He pulled her close to his body, hoping to take some of the pain away. "You need some sleep, you are exhausted". Both of them had stayed up through the night because Charlottes body kept hurting and aching making sleep a wish. Charlotte quickly fell into a deep sleep but Charles stayed up lost in his own thoughts. Their hands intertwined on her bump. 

He thought about the moment she agreed to share their life's forever. They sailed on a small sailing-boat on the shores of Monte Carlo. When he got down on one knee, his biggest fear was losing his best friend and the love of his life. But instead of losing her, he not only gained a fiancé but also a baby girl that would announce herself a few weeks later. He often asked himself  how he deserved the life he had. How lucky he was to have such an amazing  women like Charlotte by his side.

The doctor told them about the pregnancy after Charlotte had gone to a checkup because she couldn't  sleep or keep her food down. It had explained why she kept getting sick. He had hugged her and whispered sweet i love yous in her ear. Both of them were exited. 

He kept stroking her bump. He wasn't sure if he would be a good father. All his father figure had passed away and he could only imagine what they would have done in his situation. The negative thoughts were washed away as soon as he thought about his little girl. Maybe she would have raven black hair like him or maybe light brown-blonde-ish colour like Charlotte. He hoped she was as determined as Charlotte. The love for his unborn child already bigger than anything he had yet experienced. 

"At least we know now that she will be indeed a little fauteur de troubles.", he whispered and pressed a light kiss onto Charlottes cheek.
