IRENE STOOD on top of the roof of a building, eyes staring in shock at the devastating appearance of the town she once grew up in. there were puffs of smoke from countless areas of the town along with knocked down buildings of what was once home to a family. she grimaced at the sight of chunks of buildings piling on top of each other on the road with splatters of blood that tattooed on the rocks.
she didn't believe that annie was the cause of all of this.
she could hear the two titans fighting in the distance as their punches and kicks were strikingly loud, along with the shouts and groans coming from the two of them.
she sprinted across the rooftop, swords at the sides of her legs as she busily searched for the district she grew up in, hoping that it wasn't as wrecked as the others.
her heart skipped a beat, legs rooted in their place as her stomach twisted.
a few miles from where she stood was her old house. the once white house she was caged in by her mother had was in ruins. there was a large chunk of her brick roof that had collapsed into the first floor of the house, allowing irene to see her once used room.
irene jumped off the roof, landing on the stone pavement, and sprinted to her house. she pushed the already opened door, scarlet eyes widening. she felt her heart drop to her stomach. terror overtook her face as she glanced at her mother. julia was on the floor, a small mountain of solid concrete rested on the lower half of her body. irene walked towards her mother, each step she took grew heavier as she did so.
"mother!" shrieked irene, dropping down beside her mother. with her hands, she hastily threw the pieces of crushed rubble behind her, groaning as she pried off the largest piece of concrete remaining. she didn't even care about the cuts that formed on her palms due to it contacting with the sharp and rubbly edges of the concrete. the chunk of concrete fell onto the wooden plank with a loud thump. irene grimaced at the way her mother's legs were twisted at such an odd position and how there were shards of wood that penetrated through her stomach. she turned her head to face her mother, placing her bleeding hand on her shoulder. the sunlight that peaked through the demolished rooftop shone on julia's face, showing the dark eyebags that were prominent from her pale complexion.
"mother, wake up!" bewailed irene, lips quivering. julia's eyelids slowly fluttered open, her brown milky-colored eyes gazed upon irene's with surprise.
