The world was silent without him. The silvery moon, always hung low in the sky, only reminded him of his pale skin. The red shirt he always wore only reminded him of the way his face was. The darkness of the night was a painful reminder of the colour of his hair, and what he felt every day of his lonely, drawn out life.

William Strife was not one to linger on pieces of the past, but this was not only a piece of the past, this was a piece of his heart, torn out and crushed beneath the boot of the gods of this world, if such a thing existed. This world - and every other world in existence - was hardly a speck in the entire spectrum of the universe. What did it matter if one person was gone?

Well, actually, it mattered a whole fucking lot to Will, thanks Universe. Was it really too much to ask? A peaceful life? Away from pain and death and suffering? They thought they had achieved this one wish. They had been mislead.

Often times, now, he lay awake in his bed, remembering all the things they used to do. It wasn't even his own bed that he slept in anymore. It was his partner's old one.

The word 'partner' was strange. Will was used to saying 'free labour'. But the name of Alexander Parvis was one to be cherished and remembered in great love and detail, and so that is that Will did.

He remembered him every night as he fell asleep, remembering the feel of the other man wrapped tightly in his arms. And when he ate breakfast, he would remember all of the times that Parv had insisted on making it on his own, and eventually asking him for help. Everything brought back memories.

The memories were all strong. They were sweet, yet tangy as fresh blood. But perhaps this was the best way to remember them.

And so every day Will relived it all, just through the help of his memories.
