Y/N watched closely at all of the cadets who swung at each other. The skies were clear that day, not a cloud in sight. A perfect day for training. Looking up, Y/N caught notice of the deepening colors of the yellow sun rays, making the sky look peaceful.

Peaceful.

"If only the sky wasn't the only peaceful thing on this damned earth." Y/N mumbled under her breath. A vast exhale escaped her lips as she stretched, the sweat plastered onto her skin stinging a satisfying chill from the movement. After her long stretch, she pulled back strands of her hair behind her ear. Her mind drifting into distraction of all the what if.

Was it a mistake to consider Springer to be part of her squad? Would she be a terrible leader? Leading her men to into unfortunate situations? The thoughts sent shivers down her spine. The concerns though were taken when a petite girl tapped her shoulder.

"Captain?" She nervously said, watching Y/N's face anxiously. "Er, I just wanted to ask you a question in regards to our training."

"What is it Zoey?" Y/N's arms crossed over her chest to keep her superior composure in check, her eyes slightly narrowing.

Zoey was quite young, one of the youngest here. She's 14, and her father was one of the leaders here. Giving her the honor and privilege to serve and protect at a young age with decent skill sets. Her heavy large blue eyes gleamed slightly in admiration of Y/N, it wasn't a secret she idolized her. Her dirty blonde hair went down her back, greasy and full of dirt.

"The question cadet?" Y/N snapped her out of her trance, the young girl clearly stuck in her head.

"Oh, right." Zoey shifted awkwardly, her arm grabbing the other. "It's just, why do we need to learn this?" Y/N raised an eyebrow at her, causing Zoey to slightly panic. Her hands clasped together Into an apologetic bow. "I'm sorry if I have offended you captain! I just was curious and would love to know your reasoning because I trust you!" She said a million words a minute. Her cheeks tinted pink in shame.

The woman couldn't help but chuckle. "There's no apology needed cadet." Y/N stepped a closer to Zoey. "Do you really think you're only here to kill Titians?"

Zoey caught herself in a stutter. "Well, I." She thought for a moment. "We aren't?"

Y/N leaned to whisper in her ear. "Our own government will turn against us one day. Unless you decide to join the military police, then you'd be the one to turn against us." Her voice was laced with venom, causing Zoey to gulp.

"There will be a day, we have to fight and kill our own. Especially when we possess what they want dead. This world is fucked up kid. Being in my meetings with your other captains has proven that we are being watched closely and carefully by the government. There are eyes everywhere."

"Now let's say someone wants to pursue you." Y/N watched Zoey intently. "What will you do Smith?"

Zoey looked speechless, but before she could utter a single word, Y/N gutted her in the stomach. Her breath was knocked out of her. Zoey's petite body fell to her knees with her arms wrapped around where she was punched tightly.

A couple of the cadets that were training shifted their attention to Zoey who had let out a yelp on impact. Their gaze completely focused on the two girls. Others had noticed some had stopped and joined along, until there was no one left to not notice. Some had stoic expressions, others with shocked.

"If you were a professional, your reflexes. would have saved you there." Y/N bent herself down onto one knee. "Do you also think just because a woman can kill Titians, means she can fight off a man strangling her?"
