The Pit

~The Pit~

Lurking on the edge of all that's nice and good,

There's a pit that catches those who don't do as they should.

The path is always open for the wayward walking soul,

And each conscious bad decision takes a heavy toll.

It's like a spectral being lurking tall and dark and still,

On the flip side of ever good is this lesser evil.

For some it's just a pothole on the road to success,

And to others it's a crater trying to make their greatness less.

The size you cannot control, because it was always in your path,

But it's never too big to climb out of; the Digger did the math.

Weak ones sit in it, trying meekly to get out.

Strong ones kick the sides and scream and shout.

Once your fall into it once, it's easier again.

Until you can hit the bottom with a small greeting grin.

But the pit is not for hiding, or for falling, or for pain.

The pit is for the rising, the climbing, and the gain.

The pit's what makes each road it's own,

So that the way can't be easily shown.

It's up to you to discover how to climb out of your pit,

So that the Digger's plan is a picture perfect fit.
