Expendables- Devil's Ax

Chapter 3

Clink, clink. Ting tang. Barney listened to the sound of the tags as they banged against each other. Barney and Christmas sat in the front of the plane, while Tool and Caesar sat in the back. Everyone was silent. Thought they tried not to think about it, they all thought about what they might find. Even though Christmas didn't like Gunnar, he couldn't help but feel sick to his stomach with the thought of finding him dead. The sound of the tags in the plane echoed out and seemed to resonate with everyone. They could only hope that Gunnar was alive, and that they could bring him back. After all, he was a part of their family.

"Here." Rose handed Gunnar one of the guns. "I can lead the way till we get to the gate. After that I won't know where to go." She stood up after grabbing a few knives and two handguns. She handed a handgun to Gunnar with a shaking hand. Gunnar grabbed her hand and smiled.

"Ya know. You've got to promise me something." He said.

"What?" Rose asked. She felt Gunnar's hand tighten on her's.

"You gotta kiss me when we get out of here." He said as he winked at her. "It'll give me motivation." Rose's face turned a bright red and she looked away shyly. "Promise?" He asked in a low voice.

"O-ok." She said quietly. "Let's go." She took off running into the hallway. Taking a sharp right she crouched low and jogged down the hall. It was dark and the air was dry. Her steps were quiet and light. Gunnar waited till she reached the end of the hall and signaled to him. He did the same, holding his gun low and creeping along the wall.

"Where too?" He asked in a low voice.

"Right now we're in the basement of the building. Once we find the stairs and get to the top, it's a straight shot to the front door." Her eyes were focused up head. Her head shot around the corner to survey the hall. At the end of the hall, she saw two guards approaching. Gunnar was about to make a move but Rose placed a hand on his stomach and pushed him back up against the wall. Handing him a knife, she whispered. "Try not to use your gun till we reach outside."

Gunnar took the knife and held it in his hand. He could hear the steps of the guards getting louder. When they sounded like they were right next to them, Rose grabbed her knife and swung it around the corner. Catching the closest guard in the neck, Rose spun out from behind the corner and swung her foot up into the air, knocking the second guard to the ground. Ripping her knife out of the guard's neck, she spun once more and plunged the blade into the other's head jerking it to the side. The first guard coughed blood on the floor, his white and gray tunic soaking with scarlet. the second guard was dead.

Placing a foot on the first guard's neck and pressing it in hard, Rose watched in disgust as the he squirmed on the ground. Her foot kept him from making any noise. Finally, she lifted her foot up, and stomped down on his throat making a sickening crunch sound.

"Let's go." Rose whispered.

Gunnar only watched as Rose lead the way further down the hall. He looked down at the two guards and stared at them for a few seconds. The way she killed them was inhuman. Gunnar knew he was bad, but he wasn't this bad. He could tell that Rose wanted to make these people pay greatly.

"This way." Rose said. She had made her way down the hall and was about to enter a new hallway. Gunnar ran after her and stopped next to her. He looked around the corner and saw double doors in the middle of the hallway making it the end. "Now comes the fun part." Rose said. "Remember how I told you wait to use your gun?" She asked as she casually walked up to the door.

"Yeah." Gunnar said.

"I forgot about this place." As Rose approached the door she went the side and held up her rifle. "Forget what I said." Kicking open the door, Gunnar caught a glimpse of what she meant. With a smile, gunnar ran after her into the room with his rifle ready.

The room behind the doors erupted into a spray of bullets and blood as Rose fired off her gun and hit nearly five soldiers. Gunnar shot off his gun as well, hitting three then moving to the side for cover. The room that they had stepped into was large. Tablets and papers littered the room, along with 30 to 40 soldiers with guns. On the outside of the room pillars held up the ceiling and provided Gunnar and Rose with some cover.

"We need to get over there!" Rose yelled as she pointed to the end of the room. Gunnar shot a glance over to the other end and saw the stairs. "Once we get there, we just have to run to the doors!" Rose jumped out from behind the pillar she was hiding behind and fired a few more rounds. "Come on!" she yelled to Gunnar. After taking down a few more soldiers, Gunnar jumped out from behind his pillar and fired away.

"This is as far as he go!" The US soldier yelled back at Barney from the front of the chopper. "You guys ready?" He asked. Barney looked back at everyone else. After they had landed the plane, the US military had taken them to a base where they spent the night going over plans. They were going to go in and take everyone down, even if Gunnar was dead. They were told that a Special Ops team had been wiped out and its leader taken hostage. If they found the leader, then they were to bring them back to base. Barney only had a day to get back to the rondevu point, if the team wasn't there, they would have to get back on their own. It was too dangerous to keep a chopper in the area for a long amount of time.

"Yeah! We're ready!" Barney yelled back.

The sides to the chopper opened up and everyone stood up. Barney walked over to the door and looked out. The night air was cold.

"Let's do this boys. Remember, we're to find Gunnar and if we can, the missing Special Ops."

With that, everyone jumped out of the chopper and hit the ground only a few seconds later.

A grenade was launched at Rose and Gunnar as they made a run for the pillars once more. Gunnar picked it up and threw it back at the group. Before they had a chance to run, it went off, killing several of them. Rose stepped out and took down the rest of the soldiers with her hand gun. All of the them were dead or badly wounded.

"I'm out." she said throwing both guns to the ground. She walked over to the nearest soldier and picked up another rifle. Gunnar did the same. After they checked the contents of the guns, they made their way to the stairs. After going up only halfway, the door at the top opened up and in came a soldier. Rose fired a shot threw his head and he fell to the side and off the ledge of the stairs to the ground below. Sheran up the stairs and peeked through the crack in the door. the hallway within lead straight to the outside. The doors to the outside were open. This was their chance.

"You ok?" She asked turning back to check on Gunnar. He had a wicked smile on his face and humor in his eyes.

"Let's get the hell out of here." He said.
