Chapter 31

The next morning, I was up and out the door by 6 am. This time I remembered to leave a note for my brothers in case they woke up before I'm back. I went through our backyard and headed into the forest behind it. I put my earbuds in and started walking.

After about 20 minutes, I thought I saw a movement and turned around only to stumble on my own feet but before I could land on my ass, a set of hands grabbed me, holding me up. My stranger danger alert went on and I elbowed the person holding me, hard.

"Holy shit kitten.", the guy holding me said, releasing me instantly. I turned around swiftly

"Travis? What the hell are you doing sneaking up on me?"

He groaned still doubled over. Oops!

"Gee, Good morning to you too Kitten", he said, straightening up, with a cute hurt look on his face.

Wait. WHAT? Cute? Get your head straight Thi!

I scowled at him and crossed my arms, tapping my foot on the ground.

"I saw you leaving the house and decided to follow. I was seeing how long it'll take you to notice that someone's following you. That's not safe Mi Amore", he said, crossing his arms too.

I gave him a stink eye and turned back around, continuing my walk. I scoff and put my earphones back in but not before hearing a 'hey' from him. I rolled my eyes and refused to look at him even when he stepped up beside me.

After a few minutes, he took out my earbuds, "Talk to me Kitten."

I glanced at him from the corner of my eye and continued ahead. I walk just fine without the music.

"Theaaaaa.... Theaaaaa......Theeeeaaaaa"

"Dragging my name out isn't gonna help your case."

"Well, it kinda did no, you talked.", he said with a cheeky grin.

"Whatever. How'd you get up so early on a Sunday anyway?"

"Old habit, I guess."

"Old? Oh... from school."

"Mmhmm.", he said, looking ahead, still in stride with me.

"Can I ask you something?", I said, curiosity getting the best of me.

"Uh sure kitten."

"Why is the boarding school something you don't like talking about?"

He visibly stiffened which made me regret asking.

"It's okay if you don't wanna tell me, I'm just curious."

"It's not you Kitten. It's just.... it's not easy for me to talk about it because it wasn't the best time."

"Oh well I get that. There are some situations which are harder to talk about, cause talking about them makes you think about them, something you're trying your best not to do."

I walked a bit faster to clear my head. For some reason Travis' statement hit a little too close to home and the last thing I want, is to explain to him why. Travis caught up with me pretty quickly and silence fell on us. Until,

"How did you get my number?" my curiosity is gonna be the death of me, I swear.

Travis chuckled but didn't reply. I huffed and started walking faster, any more and I'll be running.
