A/N : Thea's dress on the side

Chapter 21

Thea's POV

I could feel my brothers' concerned stares on my face. They know how much these events freak me out. My parents are aware of the fact that I don't like going to them but they don't know the full effect of it. I don't want them to know about this because then they would feel bad about making me go, plus I have to learn how to deal with all this. It's a part of our lives and I can't keep avoiding it. If it would have been any other event, I might have skipped it but it's for my brother and it's important that I'm there to support him.

I looked at Erik and saw the expression on his face. I didn't want him to think that he is the reason that I have to attend. Well he is but I don't want him to go blaming himself for making me freak out.

"Oh, wow tomorrow that's great. Dad you could have just told this to me over the phone last week. Why the suspense?" I asked dad, trying to defuse the tension.

"And miss your expression when I tell you? No way pumpkin. I knew you would be the most excited about this."

We all chuckled, agreeingly. What can I say? I'm a great cheerleader.

"Well kids, now that the cat is out of the bag, I think your mother and I will call it a day. We'll see you all in the morning. Don't stay up too late. Good night" Dad said. My Mom nodded her head and kissed all four of us on our head before leaving the room with dad.

As soon as they were out, Erik asked me if I was okay.

"Of course, I'm okay big bro. It's the first event honoring something so great that you're doing, no amount of paparazzi or media can stop me from supporting you on your day."

He smiled softly at me and gave me a hug saying, "Thank you baby girl. I know how much you hate these events but it means a lot to me to have you, all of you, there."

"I know bro I know."

After a little more convincing, I told them I'm going to head to bed too. Thank god I was able to convince them that I'm okay despite the anxious feeling.

In my room, I started pacing, I played some songs on the speakers to try and calm down. Coincidentally the song How far I'll go came up.

'I've been staring at the edge of the water
'Long as I can remember, never really knowing why
I wish I could be the perfect daughter'

I sang the lyrics softly, feeling much better once the song ended. Singing has always been therapeutic for me. After listening to the song, I made up my mind that I'll do my best for tomorrow and started making a mental check list of what all I'll need. I tried to decide my look, well, disguise for tomorrow but gave up after a while. Starting to feel overwhelmed again, I decided to read a book, to get my mind off of things. I started the second part of the Slammed series, Point of Retreat, already knowing the whole thing. I'm a firm believer of re-reading your favorite books. I know that my suck and sweet is the same thing today. Plus, the chocolate pie was also definitely the sweet too.

The next morning, I woke up around 9 am and quickly got freshen up for breakfast. After the morning routine, I headed downstairs to the back patio. Whenever my parents are at home, they insist on having breakfast out back in the open. Something about morning sunlight and fresh air. We have a fairly typical patio considering the rest of the place. There is a beautiful long white wood table with mixed colour chairs to the right as you step out back. On the left is a sofa set with a swing too, which is my favorite thing here. The table being on one end overlooks the whole backyard, a few steps down.

I saw my parents already seated on the table, having tea and discussing something on the newspaper. I greeted them good morning and took a seat next to Dad. I looked at the paper and saw an article on the event we're supposed to attend tonight. It tells a little about each project and about the funding. I feel so happy to see my brother's name representing Walter Corp.

I took a plate for myself and started my breakfast, soon enough my brothers also graced us with their presence and got to hear from Dad about being late and getting up late. Ha-ha!

I smirked behind my coffee mug, which they obviously saw and glared at me for. I smiled at them sweetly, while they mumbled a soft sorry to Dad.

In between the meal, my Mom said, "Thea honey, I have asked for a few dresses to be brought in for you and I to select from for this evening. Also, if it's okay I would like your opinion on that matter we discussed after breakfast. We can do that and later select what you're going to wear. Julio will be coming in the evening too."

"Yeah sure Mom. Let's do it after breakfast." I replied, excitedly. I didn't have to worry about the outfit and the make up now. Julio has been doing our make-up and everything for a couple of years now. He knows exactly what I like and how I like to keep up the disguise at these events so him coming actually makes me feel much better.

"You boys take care of your tuxes too okay? Erik, yours will be arriving from the dry cleaners by lunch." Mom asked.

They all nodded and went back to their conversation.

After breakfast, Mom and I went to the study and for the next few hours we worked on her next line, I could see her concerns with it but nothing a few tinkering couldn't fix. Soon there was a knock on the door, one of the maids announced that our dresses are here and pulled in the rack of dresses inside the room.

My Mom wrapped up her work, happy with the changes, and asked me to look at the dresses. They were all so beautiful. Some of them were puffy, some of them knee length, some floor length etc. Mom selected hers first. She went with an elegant grey colour floor length dress with lace sleeves. I'm sure she'll look amazing in it.

"Sweetie I think this one will look great on you."

I looked at the dress Mom suggested and instantly decided to go with it. It was a baby pink sleeve-less, floor-length chiffon dress. It had rhinestones on the neckline and on the tightening under the bust, which made the dress a little flowy below that.

After deciding on the dress, we went to the living room. My friends arrived right on time for lunch and met my parents. Questions exchange, laughs were shared; all in all, they all seem to get along well. I told them about the event tonight and they seem to be more excited than me. They were all discussing about tonight excitedly with my brothers, congratulating Erik on the project. To be honest, I'm kind of looking forward to meeting some of our friends too, it's been a long time. It'll be a nice change of pace.

After lunch my friends left, telling me to enjoy myself tonight. If only they knew.

Soon it was time to start getting ready, Julio arrived some time back and started working on my Mom's make up, since she'll be leaving first with Dad and I will be going with my brothers.

I took a long bath, washed my hair and everything, getting ready to well get ready for the event.

"So what look are we going for today Darlin'?" Julio exclaimed, entering my room. I was seated on my vanity chair in the closet, in a bathrobe. I turned and smiled at him, walking to give him a hug. Julio is a good-looking Italian guy who has been in this business for a couple of years now. He started working for us when he was just an assistant for a famous make-up artist and now, he himself is one.

He kissed me on both cheeks and then quickly turned towards the closet. I saw behind him that he has brought a guy along with to help him. I greeted him and shook his hand before going to the closet myself. Julio had already seen the dress and before I could tell him what I had in mind, he shuts me up, rambling to himself. Knowing how he gets when he is in his zone, I rolled my eyes at him but stayed quiet. Starting on the work, he instructed me to get in the chair and to close my eyes and relax.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
