Hazel's POV

Hazel watched in horror as the entire world seemed to slow down, a bolt of lightning crackling through the air and towards the pirate captain atop the mast.

She gripped on to Frank tightly, praying that, when the lightning would strike the boat, he'd be fine.

But that never happened.

Horror turned to a mixture of shock and awe as the pirate captain let the lighting strike her and purposefully redirected it into the ocean next to them.

"Everyone! Inside! Now!" The girl with the choppy hair commanded.

Hazel's body somehow moved before her brain had comprehended what was said, as if the girl could control her using only her voice.

She stumbled inside, along with everyone else, but as she looked up, she saw Reyna standing over the hatch, wearing a grin expression.

"Reyna-" The shirt, black haired pirate boy began, but she cut him off with a glare.

"You know what I have to do, Nico." Reyna spoke softly, which was something Hazel had never heard. Reyna was speaking like the boy was her son. "There's a chance they won't be able to do it, with me, they'll get us through."

"But... sharing your strength with both of them might kill you." The boy sounded deeply heartbroken.

"It won't." Reyna replied with confidence, and Hazel could tell she meant it.

That seemed to convince the pirate as well, who nodded slightly and sighed. "Then you do what you gotta do, mom."

Hazel saw Reyna's eyes light up and she cracked a warm smile, before shutting the hatch over them and leaving them in a dimly lit room.

Hazel glanced over to Annabeth and could tell the gears in her mind were trying to turn, but were grinding instead, which she fully understood, because her mind wasn't quite able to comprehend what was happening either.

Somehow, they'd gotten onto a pirate ship, which was run by a crew that knew they were redcoats and knew they hated pirates. Those same pirates also seemed to have different powers.

One could disappear into shadows, the other could redirect lightning, while another was able to somehow stop the boat from being rocked violently by the stormy waves.

Hazel decided to distract her mind by looking around the room, though that didn't help at all, as the room wasn't very large. It was quite small, in fact.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that the room was small and there was nothing in it, Hazel's mind began to wander back to something that had been bothering her ever since she'd first heard that certain pirate speak.

The small boy with the black hair and pale skin. He seemed to eerily familiar, but it felt like a distant memory.

When she'd realised his name was Nico, a part of her hoped it was her long lost brother, but another desperately hoped it wasn't, because that would mean that her father had been feeding her lies for almost her entire life.

"What is this room?" Annabeth asked, sounding slightly exasperated. "And what the fuck just happened."

"This room is just a place to hide out storms, and also we don't know if we can trust you yet, so we're not showing you around our ship." Nico replied. "As for your second question, well a lot has been happening, what part do you want?"

"How about all of it?" Annabeth shot back. "How can your captain redirect lightning? How can you disappear into shadows? Why does this boat feel like it's on level water even though we're in the middle of a massive storm? Why is the rain much lighter in this ship than it is around it? How did you know Leo was the mechanic and inventor? How did that Percy guy know I was the smart one?"
