viii. sinner in grief

the devil waits for me on the corner of depredation and morning glory. she's all skin tight and crimson red. she licks her lips before taking me to bed. stripping me bare and groping me there as her teeth scrape down my chest. what do you want from me? she moans. speak and it shall be.

damnation, i begged. justice and ruination too. for i have sinned and cursed and lived in vain. i demand solace from this life of pain.

but when my eyes did open, she was gone. claw marks left on me and beside a song: for i can do nothing for a sinner in grief when what he begs for is not of the seven, but relief.
