I woke to Beauty
Softly breathing
Next to me,
Purified essence,
Intangible presence.
Sun's rays
Gently caress
Leaf and bud.
Enlivening my garden,
Birds chorus allelujah.
This exquisite moment,
A world entire, holds me,
A tender lover. A taut
Cord within gives way
To Life's heady sway.
In this splendid hour,
Human, unbidden,
Bellows his distress,
A piercing ugliness.
A neighbour's donkey brays
At unwelcome interruption.
Clouds re-condense.
Trees become wooden.
Sun withdraws. Love withers.
Discordant note jars
Instant tableau vivant,
Rings cacophonous.
We hold our mingled breath
And pray strain will pass.
