Elizabeth and I had spent the entire night eating cookies and watching cheesy B-films until we both passed out. I don't think I'd ever been happier. She just dropped me off, promising to pick me up later so I could cook for her. Or try to cook for her.

With giddy excitement, I unlocked the front door of my apartment, slipping in silently to avoid Kate and Steve who, I was sure, still didn't make up. Frankly, I didn't even want to find out. I was in a blissful mood and if Kate was just going to snap at me again, I didn't want to deal with it.

I headed straight for the bathroom, needing to clean myself up after being out all night. As much as I loved staying over at her place, I really needed to bring some stuff with me if I was going to do it again. Again? Would this become an every night kinda thing?

A nervous knot bubbled up in the pit of my stomach thinking about the future. I decided to push those thoughts away for the moment. What was more important was figuring out what I was going to cook for dinner tonight.

I stared at myself in the mirror, trying to mentally hype myself up. Maybe I shouldn't have promised to cook her something without practicing first. But, it was too late to back out now. I had to come up with something.

I pulled out my phone and searched for "simple dinner recipes." None of them seemed simple. Or maybe it was my lack of experience. I decided on a chicken meal; spicy, savory, and I'd be able to use the veggies from her garden if she was okay with it.

I just wanted to not kill her with my horrible cooking. I put my phone away and washed my face, feeling a bit better about having decided on what I was going to attempt to make for dinner.

A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and I grimaced. It was too early for whatever I was about to experience.

"One second!" I called out, cleaning up after myself and unlocking the door.

When I opened it, Kate was standing there, looking as if she had something on her mind.

"Y/N," she started, her voice soft, yet with a suspicious hardness to it. "We need to talk."

I blinked at her in question.

"We, uh ... we do?"

"Yes. It's about you and Steven."

I couldn't help but just stare at her. Me and Steven?

"What about me and Steven?"

"Are you seeing each other?"

I recoiled in shock, absolutely dumbfounded as to why she would even think that. I stared at her for a moment before shaking my head animatedly.

"No! God, no! Kate, you know I'm gay. Why would I be seeing Steven?" It was absurd really.

"You're both gone at the same time, you work in the same office, and this mystery 'girl' you just met seems a bit suspicious and far-fetched to me."

Pushing past her, I walked out of the bathroom, absolutely unable to believe what she was saying.

"Kate, is this a joke?"

She shook her head and steeled herself.

"It's not. I need to know the truth."

"The truth," I raised my voice. "Is that I'm seeing a girl named Elizabeth, and I'm not seeing your boyfriend, despite all the 'evidence' you provided."

Angrily, I began to unbutton my shirt so I could get changed, a few stray hickies coming into Kate's view as I undressed.

"I'm sorry you think Steven is cheating on you, but if he is, it's not with me."

I turned away from her and headed into my room, frustrated that this was even a conversation we were having. What the hell made her think it was me of all people? I could hear her footsteps following me and I refrained from rolling my eyes.

"Does 'Elizabeth' have a last name?"

"She does."

"And what is it?"

"What does that matter? You're not going to believe me anyway."

I rummaged through my drawers, trying to find a shirt I could change into. She was unbelievable. Now not only did I have to worry about not fucking things up with Elizabeth, but now I had to deal with Kate and her cheating boyfriend.

"Listen, I don't mean to be insensitive, but I don't have time for this." I really didn't want to be rude, but now I was pretty irritated with her and didn't even want to be bothered with the situation. "I'm going out again tonight and I have a lot to do before I go."

"Steven said the same thing," she laughed bitterly at me.

I blinked at her wordlessly.

"What does Steven have to do with me? Why don't you ask Bailey about Elizabeth? She saw her two days ago at the bar. She's real and I'm not lying."

"Yeah. Yeah, sure." She started to back out of my room. "I'll see you later, Y/N."

I watched as she left, unable to believe that had just happened. Did that just happen? I pulled my phone out and went straight to my messages with Bailey.

- dude wtf is going on with Kate and Steven

Before locking my phone, I let Elizabeth know I had finally found what I would be making for her later tonight and went back to picking out my clothes for later.

After all that just happened, I was starting to have second thoughts about going out. Would staying home prove to Kate that I wasn't the one Steven was seeing behind her back? I bit my lip in thought. What would Elizabeth say if I flaked on her though? She would probably be so hurt and hate me.

Now I had to choose between one of my closest friends and the girl who could potentially be the love of my life.
