I'm watching The Notebook. Don't wait up. All the love
H.

I kept looking at the text I had sent Zayn and my heart was still hammering in my chest even hours after I pressed send.

The Notebook was our code word, it meant something was wrong but it was also something only we knew.

This time it meant I was okay... it also meant that I loved him but that I wasn't planning on coming back. And we were in a dangerous situation after all, I hoped he'd understand that too.

I'd miss him, though... I wished I could've seen him before we left the city, but it wasn't safe to stick around for longer than necessary and it would also put him in danger. I trusted Zayn with my life and I knew it wasn't fair to leave like this, but we had no choice.

As soon as we ran through the woods so we could get to my car, I knew it was a decision we couldn't undo. There were going to be consequences.

We risked it all tonight and it was very fucking worth it if you asked me. We eliminated all of our problems. even though the FBI was probably going to be looking for us now.

It was alright... we were alright.

Cleo and I packed our bags and we got everything we needed, along with fake passports and a lot of money. We were ready to run away, we had been ready for a while now.

I also managed to help her remove the bullet from her shoulder and bandage the wound, and I had to be careful as I walked because my sprained ankle was being a bitch. Jumping out of a window while a house was on fire was a first for me, I couldn't walk around much for now.

That's why I was currently waiting in the car, in the driver's seat, as Cleo did whatever she had to do at Eroda.

So much had happened in the last two hours that I honestly couldn't process it, especially since I was still a bit shaken up because of the masquerade... because of my time in the dark.

I was keeping the lights on in the car and the sky was already starting to clear up, but it was like I could still feel the darkness inside me.

It was almost five a.m., and when Cleo told me she had to stop by Eroda to grab some things and fix some others, I didn't even ask what the fuck she meant by that. I knew the club was closed and the owner was dead, so it wasn't a big problem.

But we had to leave.

Amber said she wouldn't be able to help us anymore and I didn't know where the fuck the FBI was or how long it would take until they started to look for us, I mean, we were right at a party where her Cleo's planned so they could auction off trafficked girls.. yeah, things didn't look good for us.

Plus, there was a trail of bodies Cleo left behind, I was sure Amber was going to be a fucking snitch.

I glanced out the window and the club looked so normal... no pink neon lights and literally no one else parked besides my car. I kept twisting my rings and running my fingers through my hair, I was feeling too fucking anxious.

I just wanted Cleo to hurry up, the sun was gonna come up soon and my plan was to get to the airport and book the first flight to any destination as far away from here as we could.
