{Chapter seventeen}

WHISPERS AND MUTTERS FILLED THE THRONE ROOM AS ALEKSANDER DESCENDED INSIDE, MAKING HIS PRESENCE CLEARLY KNOWN. Those around him cleared a path, moving out of his was as he approached the King and Queen.

"General," King Pyotr greeted, seeming amused with his early submittal.

"Tsar. Moy tsaritsa." said Kirigan with a faked smile.

Translation: King. My Queen.

The Queen sat in a cream-colored dress with a light orange covering, one that clashed with her greying hair unattractively. King Pyotr's chubby belly seemed more evident when he sat in his equally stubby throne. "I do hope you both are enjoying the festivities."

The King stared at him incredulously. "I must confess I'm not bored." he said with a taunting tone, as though he were speaking to a child.

"I quite like it," the Queen admitted, twirling her hair. "There's always been a certain... quaintness about the Little Palace."

Aleksander couldn't wait for the day that his Grisha were safe from cruel and condescending people like the King and Queen of Ravka.

Only a few yards away were Adaline and Alina, both of which were following Genya and were being boggled at because of what Adaline assumed was their faces and their kefta's.

Hell, even Adaline boggled at her kefta at first glance.

Genya peeked inside the throne room, then quickly turned back to face the girls, muttering something about it 'not being time yet' and walking the other way, but neither Starkov listened.

With Alina in the lead, they both took steps forward and entered the throne room, much to the surprise of the guests. Everyone in the room turned silent, even the King and Queen. Once again the people made a clear pathway, allowing both girls to walk through Adaline was concealed by Alina at the current moment.

Alina happily sported her blue and shimmering gold kefta, but it seemed Adaline became the center of attention after the Sun Summoner nodded once at Kirigan before stepping away to reveal her sister.

Fucking Saints.

Aleksander simply couldn't find the words, for they were stuck in his throat. He had watched and picked out every little detail when the Fabrikators made Adaline's kefta but never had he imagined that the third she had been granted would look so enchanting on her.

Sure, it made her look a little more special compared to everyone else, even him, but that's exactly what she was.

Special

She was so special that he wanted everyone to know. She was so special that he had three colors embroidered on her kefta.

Covering her shoulders and wrapping around the black base of her kefta were perfectly blurred swirls, swipes, and branches of white, grey, and black. They were melted perfectly together, beginning white at the bottom and blending into grey then to black. They covered the entirety of her kefta, dotted with little shimmering silver beads.
