When the teams reached the challenge grounds, Asia was immediately glad she didn't change her clothes. Mud was EVERYWHERE.
“Welcome, players! Now that you're all here, it's time for part two of today's challenge! The Mad Skills Obstacle Course! The relay race starts with a mad dash from the Kickstart. Forget coffee- if this thing doesn't get you going, nothing will. Then it's off to the race against time that is the Cannonball Run! Over to my personal fave, the Wrecking Ball Alley. Hurts so good. Moving on, we come to the Gang Plank; complete with rabid beavers, followed by the Bouncing Agony of Double Trouble. And finally, the Grand Slam, where you'll use ropes to swing into the giant baseball mitt while avoiding those deadly bats. Piece of cake.”
Asia had begun to stretch halfway through Chris's long-winded explanation of the course. She could feel her competitiveness kicking in, and the last thing she needed was to pull a muscle on the Valley of Bouncing Butts or whatever it was called.
“Oh, and as you remember, I said that the winning team of part one would have an advantage in part two.”
“But there was no winner!”
“Yeah. Don't remind me. The losing team was going to wear snazzy specs while competing. But since neither team actually finished the competition, I've decided that EVERYBODY will wear them!”
Asia picked up a pair of glasses, looking through them. They made her sight pretty blurry but it wasn't like she was completely blind. She'd manage.
“Those specs won't make this challenge easy- or attractive- but completing it can be done. In theory.”
Everyone groaned as Chef passed out the glasses.
“Chef will lead you to your assigned obstacles, where you'll face off against someone from the opposite team.”
As everyone took their positions, Chris called out to Asia.
“Asia, you're the odd player out. I was going to make you sit out of this challenge completely, but I figured it wouldn't be fair to leave you out of the fun. So, you get to run the entire course!”
“...sorry, what?”
Asia looked around the course as Zoey tried to reason with Chris.
“You can't make her do that! There's no way she can run this entire course!”
“Wow. Way to underestimate your teammate, Zoey. In case you forgot, Asia's a dancer. And since dancing requires as much endurance and caution to risk as say... basketball or tennis, I'm sure she can handle one measly obstacle course.”
Asia groaned as her own words were used against her. The sadistic host snickered, then cleared his throat.
“However, I'll show some mercy. Asia, you don't have to wear the glasses.”
Asia quickly tossed the glasses aside. Scott's jaw dropped and he pointed at her.
“That's not fair!”
“You know what's really not fair? Making me skip a perfectly fine challenge because you got bit on the hiney by a shark! Life isn't fair!”
Chris took a moment to compose himself as Scott grumbled something.
“Now as I was saying... Asia, no glasses for you. But you have to complete the entire obstacle course while also participating in the relay race with your teammates. That means no going solo- you can't pass on to the next obstacle unless the flag, is passing with you.”
The contestants looked around in confusion.
“What flag?”
“Oh, did I say flag? I meant mascots. Oh intern~!”
