Analia
My vision wavered, my mind spinning. My eyelids fluttered open as I roused awake against Bellamy's shoulder. "Bellamy?" I whispered, I'd never been so cold; my body shuddered.
He stopped, meeting my eyes, not letting me down. "Hey, princess. It's okay." His voice was so gentle for him being covered in blood and wounds.
It was no longer dark, which means he had been carrying me for hours, his grip secured. How long has it been? And how far away were we? I wanted to speak, but no words came out. I felt numb even though my skin was still burning with nerves.
After a few more dreadful steps, Bellamy moved down a slope, shielding our bodies behind a boulder.
He sat me down, then bent down to survey my thigh.
All the pain hit me then, and I suddenly remembered why. Glancing down, I prepared for the worst, but my leg was bandaged in cloth. I knew it was deep. It felt like a heartbeat had taken over the flesh.
Without a word, Bellamy tore the hem of his previously torn shirt, then wrapped it around the other piece of cloth.
The morning light illuminated his weary face, those compelling features, scars and bruises from his endless fight. His entire body had gone rigid with strain, and now, he looked almost hopeless.
I was contributing to that.
"You can't carry me anymore," I told him. The numbness I felt wasn't a good sign. He wouldn't be able to make it anywhere safe if he had to drag me along in this state. "You have to go. Now."
Bellamy looked at me as if I asked him to murder someone. Eyes wide and voice strained, he said, "Don't ever ask me to leave you again."
"Octavia— you have to find her."
He shook his head. "She was hit. I let Lincoln take her somewhere safe."
"Bellamy?"
We whipped around. Monroe and Sterling came speeding into view.
"Get back down," Bellamy demanded at them. "How'd you guys get out?"
Monroe hesitated before saying, "We-we we saw the Ark come down. We thought we'd come get help."
"The Ark?" I asked.
"It came down during the fight. You were in the dropship," Bellamy explained.
I struggled to comprehend. My dad was on the Ark, which meant he could possibly be alive? Before I could ask more, I thought I heard more people approaching.
Bellamy heard it too. Grabbing his weapon, he looked past the boulder.
"What the hell was that?" Monroe hissed as more voices came closer.
Then what sounded like a horse being whipped.
"Grounders." Bellamy's expression was grim. "Follow me. Sterling, take our six."
Finding a shallow slope, Bellamy quietly slid down, then grabbed my waist and steadied me on my feet.
He covered my back with his hand and urged me down.
