Analia

By the time we completely uncovered the rover, the sun had fell and risen again.

Bellamy didn't waste time.

Breathless, I watched him throw open the hood, remove wires and start to repair the corroded engine.

I took the time to source for supplies, opening the rover's doors, searching front and back. We'd packed everything up for space, but I did find a flickering flashlight, an empty bucket, and a pack of unopened crackers I planned to give Bellamy.

And to our surprise, the loaded mini gun attached the rover had survived. Not that we'd need it anytime soon.

What we did need? Water. I couldn't tell how many days we'd been without it, but my pounding headache, dizziness, and cramps told me we didn't have much time left.

Bellamy had moved from the hood to underneath the rover so I dropped down beside of him, amazed at how quickly he could split and re attach wires.

"Don't know how, but the oil's in tact," he told me, continuing to work. "Means the gas and battery might've survived too."

The idea was liberating. We were exhausted, with nearly zero supplies, fresh from suffering radiation burns-and yet I was beginning to feel optimistic.

"What's next?" I asked.

"I'm gonna prime the oil system. Get in the driver's seat. I'll tell you when to shift the gear in neutral and try to crank the engine."

I followed orders, watching out the window as he poured oil down the cylinders. When he gave me the signal, I held my breath and reached for the start button.

One...Two...

The engine came roaring to life, exhaust coughing out and smoke choking the air.

Bellamy was already lifting me out of the seat, spinning me around as I closed my arms around his neck. "You did it!" I cried, "Bell, you did it!"

He kissed me. Hard. "I'm gonna get you food and water. I just need you to keep fighting for me, alright?"

I nodded, letting him carry me to the passenger side and settle me in. "Where are we going?"

"The bunker."

Somewhere near Polis

I blinked open my puffy eyes, disoriented. I lifted my head off Bellamy's arm but he kept his grasp secured on my thigh.

It was dusk, the winds were still, and the only sound was the hum of our vehicle. How long have I been asleep?

"Where are we?"

"Almost there."

I glanced at the untouched crackers I'd given him. "You haven't ate?"
