You knew this would be hard; dating Kirby. You knew that it would be impossible to be able to see him every day. The best you could do when he was on road games would be to face time when he got back to his hotel room.

But now that the season was coming to an end, you know that Kirby was planning to go back up to Canada. That was probably the hardest thing so far. The Hawks didn't make it too far into the playoffs, losing in the first round. You and Olive weren't able to make it to the game. Olive was with her dad this weekend, you hoped that she watched it but you doubted that her dad played the game for her.

You remembered how devastated he was. He went straight to your apartment when he got home from the airport. Kirby forgot that Olive wasn't going to be there and that made him all the more depressed.

You didn't know what to expect; you didn't know if you needed to prepare for a Kirby that was going to have a positive attitude about everything or a Kirby who was going to punch a wall.

But this Kirby needed a hug- and a big one. Kirby walked in and set his bag down on the floor, heavy shoulders and a heavy heart. This was possibly the roughest season of hockey he had played in his life. With losing in the world junior cup, getting a rough start to the regular season, and then losing first thing in the postseason, Kirby felt like trash. He felt useless.

The first thing you did was greet him with a one-sided kiss, and wrapped your arms around his middle. You told him how proud you were, saying that he'll be back and better come next season.

"You'll have the experience under your belt. You'll learn from this, everyone will." Kirby hugs you back and rests his chin on the top of your head. You stay like that for a few moments, letting him be the first one to pull away.

"Can we take a nap?" He asked (as if you were going to say no). You followed him to your bedroom, closing the curtains and climbing into bed with him. He pulled you close, just wanting to forget the past few months of hockey for a little while.

He appreciated you during these times. He appreciated you being there when he needed someone most, whether it was for some sort of release, someone to vent to, or someone to just lay down with. Kirby didn't know what he would have done without you these past few months.

"I'm sorry if I put you through something," he let go, running his hand up and down your arms. Immediately you raise, looking down at your boyfriend.

"You didn't put me through anything, why would you say that?" Kirby looked up at the ceiling, taking one of your hands in his and playing with your fingers.

Kirby sighed before answering, "I just...feel like I could have been a better boyfriend to you. I felt like I took a lot of my frustrations out on you. I dunno. I just think you didn't deserve to have a boyfriend who has a sucky season and is therefore emotionally unavailable."
